In another thread "Apple Macs are too expensive" has been mentioned.
For anyone contemplating dumping Microsoft for any reason the answer is they needn't be in relation to what you can get for a few extra ££'s

I think the main point to note is that Apple don't try and compete at the bottom end of the market. Given that some mobile phone companies are now giving away a Windoze laptop in order to tempt people to sign a contract, it is obvious that the 'cheap end' of PCs has become a commodity market.
If you compare like with like, then Apple often does not look particularly expensive. When I bought my MacBook Pro just over two years ago, it was cheaper than an equivalent specification from Dell or HP. Granted, it was not cheap at a whisker under £1,700, but the offerings from the other two came in at about £1,900 and over £2,000 respectively.
I wanted a work tool that could handle graphics, image editing and very big presentations with ease. And working in the marketing business, I wanted to make a statement about my consultancy.

Horses for courses, but I have never regretted it. And the re-furb programme can give a nice saving.

John got a refurbished Macbook Pro about 18 months ago for about £300 less than the list price. He's very happy with it apart from struggling initially with the transition. Now I've almost convinced myself to replace my (getting to be ancient) desk top PC with a smaller Macbook and a large monitor. This idea is driven by the fact that I've recently got myself an iPhone and I have to sync it with John's Macbook as my PC wasn't happy with my attempts to use it.

I see what you mean and even if you go to Apple store home and then click on "Refurbished" it's still all greyed out.

But this featured one works

They must be updating or something.

I was looking at adding an entry level macbook might be persuaded up to a pro if the price was right but I want a small footprint.

Ok site working with some bargains the refurbed macs are a steal.

Biglol

You say no one goes back to a PC well I know someone who did. Her son was in IT bought her a mac so he wouldn't have to be bothered by her with it. She managed ok for three years or so then happened to mention to me that it was getting very slow. She had very little on it apart from her photo album and a 3rd party sketching program. She had done no updates to the OS and was on 10.2.0 OS (which was flakey) I upgraded her to about 10.3.9 and split her photo album into smaller ones as I said, you are asking a lot to manage 300,000 photos in one iPhoto album (yes I haven't put too many zeros in). She had also never done a backup and the photo album represented her life's work as a photographer and painter. Her 80 GB hard disk was full.

She phoned me almost in tears a couple of months later, her son had presented her with a brand new state of the art Sony laptop for her 60th birthday (a fine computer) transferred all the files across but many were (or seemed?) lost in the process and she wanted to know if I still had the back up I told her that I had done. Luckily I had plus a back up of the albums after splitting, (so that was why my external back up hard disk was getting full Smile ) and we were able to find the albums that had been lost/mislaid.

Anyway a year or so down the road she is managing more or less with her Sony and she can get help with it and XP at the charity she works for, but she said to me only the other week when we met in the market that if she buys a new mac would I help her putting her photos back, otherwise she said I'm going to give up and take up crochet!!

I await her call Smile and I still have her back up sitting my latest hard drive - 2TeraByte
