I'm thinking of getting a Camos FlatSat, it gets good reviews, is compact (475mm wide) and relatively inexpensive.
The problem is where to fit it, I'd ideally like it mounted above a locker close to the pull down TV. The locker is only 300mm or so wide so I'm not sure if the crank can be accomodated this way?? Positioning is compromised by all the other stuff on the roof (rooflights, Heiki, roof rails and top box) so it could mean the crank ending up on the ceiling above the bed Sad
Has anyone else got one of these and where and how did you fit it??

I guess this applies to crank-ups in general so where does the crank handle normally go?

Hi Spartacus

I fitted a flat sat about a month ago and it is excellent. I don't think having the crank inside a cupboard would be a good idea though - you need to be able to rotate the handle about ten turns, then pull down the disc and rotate very precisely. Doing this in a confined space could be a bit frustrating! The crank is about 50mm in depth below the ceiling so, unless you are very tall, it does not get in the way. This is how I fitted mine. That looks an excellent job Kees - all done by yourself? And no complaints by her indoors about the crank being in the middle of the ceiling Surprised Question

Hi Spartacus

Yes, I fitted it myself. Our motorhome is ten years old and I must admit that I wouldn't have been keen on drilling so many holes in it when it was somewhat younger! Crazy really, I know. In the instructions, Camos tell you to drill the roof and take the cable through 400mm in front of the dish. That would mean taking the cable across the roof inside! Instead, I made an L-bracket at the appropriate point to secure it and took the cable over the roof towards the rear, then brought the cable through into the top cupboard.

Hi Spartacus

Regarding her indoors and the position of the crank, I know just what you mean! Fortunately, she is quite short and would actually need to stand on a stool to operate the crank herself Laughing The promise of watching Wimbledon and actually seeing the ball clinched it.

Hi, Sorry to butt in but am looking to enter the 21st Century and put TV into my van. I have a Hymer B544 which has a square sort of arial on the roof attached to a pole coming through the cupboard with a little handle on it to turn the arial. I have never used it and assume it is very old fashioned now anyway. If I installed one of these CAMOS Crank up things
1) Would I be able to use the original hole through the roof ?
2) Is this the same as the Maxview crankup I keep reading about ?
3) If I had a dome what would happen to the hole in the roof ?
4) am I better off going for a Crank up rather than a Dome bearing in mind the hole or could the dome go over the hole ?

Perhaps I should just upgrade my van but what with the Credit Crunch and all that.....

Cheers

Alex

Looking at the photos, the internal mechanism looks very bulky compared to the Maxview Crankup.

The internals are about the same size, I use to have a Maxview cranck up on our old van and looked at the Camos Crank up for our new van before deciding to get a dome.

Both the Maxview and Camos crankups have advantages and disavantages between them IMHO.

Hi Richard

Yes, I wouldn't claim that the Camos is better than the Maxview. In my case, the space between the two rooflights was about 50mm too small to accommodate the Maxview. The Camos is quite a bit smaller and fitted comfortably.

I quite like the fact that it doesn't look like a satellite dish. I was once asked if it was a solar panel (but he was a tugger)!
