As mentioned on the Germany section, we are travelling from Nottingham down to the Black Forest for 16 days from 13th August.
We finish work on the evening of the 12th & plan on a steady drive down to Folkstone ready for the Eurotunnel at 5:30am.
Just like you guys we have had / are still having a busy year so the plan is to have a steady drive from Calais to the Belgium / Lux / Germany border & pitch up for 2-3 days just to unwind.
Anyone have any sites they can recommend where we can park up, get the bikes out, enjoy some good food & beer & generally start the batteries recharging ready for the drive down to Schwarzwald & 2 weeks of bliss.
Any ideas will be greatly accepted, not looking for Aires though unless they have a cracking bar!!
Hi GMW.
The campsite at Ypres is nice & handy for walking/cycling into the town.
The town is wonderful & the last post at the menin gate is unmissable but very sad & sobering
Regards Catherine
Thanks for that 1happy, we are looking to do Leper on the way home as it's something I've said for a long time that I must do.
We are also planning to do a few cemeteries as all of us in the party (4) have relatives who lost their lives so it will be a sombre end to what I hope will be a fantastic journey
Camping Blaarmeersen in Gent might be worth considering.
Check it out on Google - it's next door to a huge leisure complex, right by a bus route into town, and there's also a lovely cycle ride into the centre along mostly dedicated paths.
Gent is a lovely city, and some of the bars have dozens, if not hundreds (I do not jest!) of beers for you to sample.
try Han sur Lesse on the way down to Luxembourg from Brussels - we've stopped off twice there, once in the camp site and once on the aire. It's a nice village only about 5k off the autoroute, has caves & a zoo. It's one of thos eplaces when we have more time....
Have a look in the campsite database - both are mentioned.

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.
