I can finally reveal some details on something I have been planning for a while now in conjunction with Desert Detours.

The 2010 Morocco "Footsteps of Moors" MHF Tour

For almost 800 years the Moors had an extraordinary impact on European cultural, socio-economic and political institutions. The Moorish occupation enlightened Europe and brought it out of the dark ages to usher in the Renaissance period. This influence left an unmistakable mark on Spain, making it markedly different, even today, from the rest of Western Europe. The Moors not only brought their religion, but also their music, their art, their view of life, and their architecture...two of the greatest examples of which are the Alhambra in Granada and the Escorial in Cordoba.

Perhaps a more simple, graphic and tranquil sign of their lasting presence in Al Andalus [Andalusia] are the numerous “White Villages” that dot the sweeping countryside and rolling Sierras.

In fact our journey “Footsteps of Moors” begins at one such village, Alhaurin El Grande [The Garden of Allah] and continues across the narrow Straits of Gibraltar and over the distant Riff Mountains in deepest Morocco. We visit the ancient Imperial City of Meknes, trans the great Cedar Forest and cross the High Atlas, traditional home of the Berbers. On the desert plains where the Arab armies must have gathered and looked north we pause before ourselves turning back……….truly an epic journey “Footsteps of Moors”……………..

Your passage into history starts from a tranquil campsite in the sweeping Guadahorce Valley, beneath the Sierra de Mijas, before ending at a place the Arabs called “Sahra”…..The Sahara Desert.

The journey between almost defies description…….Leaving behind the “White Village” of Alhaurin el Grande, after enjoying a traditional Spanish Ferria, the distant Riff Mountains call, opening the way to a Moroccan interior, rarely visited by others.

You will experience exclusive and stunning wilderness camps in the Great Cedar Forest, High Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert. You will be stunned at the isolation of “Fatima’s Farm” the biblical Berber hamlet near the sky-scraping village of Imilshil. Few will be left dry-eyed by the infants at Zhara’s school but all will be euphoric at M’ahlerd’s stomping Arab/Berber/Afro musical concert at the Kasbah of Meski.

Ancient Imperial Cities, heady mountain passes, cool towering gorges and vast diminishing plains…….this is truly a journey back in time…..an journey that will live up to its title………in the ” FOOTSTEPS OF MOORS"

This sounds almost the same "bog standard" Desert Detours Trip we did last year.

To find out what's special about this one, I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

No Norman..........Nothing "Bog Standard" about any of our tours [now offering 5 routes].......

The MHF tour starts with a few days in Spain.....Ferria, entertainment [Bullfight optional], Rodeo etc etc..........and then takes a route over the High Atlas via Imilshil and the volcanic basin lakes. Plus Berber farm and village etc etc etc.......Route over only just established/graded so no other Mhomes [or much else] use it, even if they could find it............

Unlike your "bog standard" tour Very Happy

Full details at info@desertdetours.com to comp............

Just looked at this and thought yes we could do that and it sounds great.

Then I saw the dates .....dam.

I will put it to the other half but as we have daughter getting married on 10th June I think I can guess the reply.

Oh well there will be other times I guess. Just have to sit and read all the postings about it.
