I have a Vodaphone contract dongle, at £15 per month.
To use it abroad costs £5 for any 24 hour period. This means that if you are online for 10 minutes or 10 hours in any 24 hour period the charge is still £5.

Maybe reasonable value if used once a week for lots of emails, transactions etc.

Hi, why not do as I do when abroad. If you are in or near a town use the local library,it costs nothing.

Don't be conned by PC world into buying software and M3 for use while away...IT DOESN,T WORK Embarassed to use a dongle will cost a fortune and as the other replies say you can "piggy" back or use weefee and a lot of sites give you a password to use theirs, very often free or so many hours a day Rolling Eyes and there is always Mcdonalds altho didn't try that. Out of interest what computer were you proposing to buy. My advice, after lugging my 15" laptop around bars and campsites, would be to get a smaller screen model.

Just received my complementary 3G dongle from the French SFR operator.
Loaded it onto my laptop here in Portbail Normandy and was told it would connect one time for me to acquire the necessary PIN No. to continue using it. Must be done within the next 15 days.

It didn't connect. Tried hanging out the window to get a better signal but zilch. Then checked out the SFR (and others) 3G coverage and it's hardly worth bothering. Only major towns and commercial areas are covered. What a swizz even if it was free. I must now drive to a major town to initiate my service before it expires.

I had hoped to use it traveling to Holland in September and at Le-Mans 24 hour next year. Maybe by then the pathetic coverage might have improved.

Ray.

A lot depends on the usage you want.
Campsite WiFi connections are sometimes 1 euro an hour or more while others are free Shocked and many are unreliable but still useable.

I visit campsites for a campsite guide, around 50 this year and though some are free many are not and quite a few of then use Orange or something similar and can charge up to €6 an hour.

We use email for our work and were often very frustrated by the unreliability and the cost in many places.

If you use email for work, why not get a Vodafone European bundle? Can't remember the exact name, but it's £60 per month (so not cheap) but that includes 200Mb data free each month.

Usually works for me - although not always fast!
