Hi,

I am new to the forum and motorhomes, this is an excellent resource packed with useful information.

I have a Fiat X250 based van and would like some advice regarding mounting of Laptop/netbook PC's.

My machine is a netbook MSI Wind U100, with Garmin Mobile PC installed. Having modified the machine with more memory, HDD space and a touch screen it works well in the cab. Unfortunately I don't have a mount and use it on the front seat, which is a bit risky.

I would be grateful if anybody could offer any views or advice regarding laptop/netbook mounts for a Fiat X250 cab.

Terryg.

I have a similar MSI Wind U100 with 2 gig ram and 160 Gig hard drive. Cracking little bit of kit.

Suggest a thick rigid plastic sheet with 4 holes for the bungees to go through to hold it to the seat. Then copious amounts of adhesive backed Velcro, hook on the plate and Eye on the bottom of the notebook.
Howzat?

Hi

There are Mounts made for netbooks see Here for an example <<. I have not seen or tried one Rolling Eyes

I use an Eee PC netbook on the move for navigation but my van is a quite old Pug Boxer and I was able to make a custom mount based on the glove pocket on the passenger side.

If you do mount the netbook "up front" then do make sure that it is well clear of any airbags that your vehicle may have... a crash is bad enough without having a netbook thrown back at your face at 1000 mph by the airbag. Wink

I have seen a cup holder mount on This website <<< that seems to be a good idea if you have a suitable cup holder.

Thanks for the warm welcome and all your comments, it's good to here from you.

spykal - I have tried one of these suction arm mounts, I found it unstable. The second option you suggested, the cup holder mount looks interesting I may try one of these.

CliveMott – I had not considered using the seat itself as a base for mounting, thanks I will look at that as well. I can recommend the Touch Screen kit for your Wind, installed it two evenings ago, don’t need a mouse or the mouse pad now. I purchase my kit on-line from Here.

Have a look at RAM mounts - they're the people who supply the laptop/netbook mounts for commercial users like UPS/citylink etc. They're rock solid, and available in many different forms. Google for the catalogue.

I've some bits for my GPS's (in car and on bike) and they're really good - as I said rock solid. Try http://www.buybits.com/Catalogue.aspx?cid=1899 as a starting point - though as I said there are many options available and you may have to piece something together for your own requirements.

I have now solved the Netbook mounting issue that I had. I have used RAM parts together with a custom made part to replace the ash tray and attach the mount. This solution does not require any holes to be drilled and can be removed without trace if required.
