Hi garethjjones

I did the work myself:

1 Cast a image with the ash tray removed.
2 Measure what was required from the image.
3 Make the part on my Axminster C2A Mini Lathe.
4 Purchase the O ring and stainless screws.
5 Purchase the RAM parts.

I could have got a local engineering company to make the part, but not sure of what that would have cost.

Terry.

Hi Terry

Your mount looks to be an excellent job integrating your custom parts with those available from RAM.

Mounting mine was a much simpler task as my netbook is only used on the move by the my passenger "navigator" and we do not have the "touch screen", just using a small microsoft optical mouse for control.

How do you rate the Garmin Mobile PC program and are the maps up to date?

Mike

Mike,

I have not used the Garmin Mobile PC much yet, however I do intend to get some winter sun down in Portugal and Spain early in 2010.

Have not found any limit to adding POI data, the GPS is much the same as dedicated Garmin GPS devices. I am expecting it to be more cost effective to upgrade the software rather than a complete GPS device.

Only one problem with the Garmin software I have found, I get out of memory error when trying to calculate routes via ferry. Say from Colchester to Lisbon, it looks to me like the routing software gets confused about the Dover/Calais ferry bit.

Workaround is to create two routes one for Colchester to Dover and one for Calais to Lisbon.

I may be able to post a review later in 2010.

Terry.
