Hello Richard,
Don't know if you can throw any light on my querie?

I use an Invantel Wireless Magic AOL Box modem/router here in France.
It has what appears to be a PCMCIA card slot that seems to only accept the AOL Wi-Fi card.
I do have and use the AOL wi-fi card which works very well. But being a belt and braces sort of person I cast around for a spare PCMCIA card that might work in the event of the AOL one failing.

I bought a NEC one off e-bay and it slotted in and powered up OK. But no wi-fi signal is detected by my other laptop, etc.

The AOL card seems to be somewhat different than other PCMCIA cards.

Ray.

I used to be with AOL in the early days and got very frustrated with the way everything was geared totally AOL so I would imagine that the card would so engineered. PCMCIA cards are engineered to search for a router not other way round - hope that helps.

Thanks Richard.
Yep, pain.
But I stick with AOL now for 15 years. Most friends have had several servers with address changes. Most confusing.

Ray.
