A good little device for backup which includes E-mails and all files generated is called Clickfree and all you do is plug it into a USB 2 port and it automatically does the rest.
Sorry to hear that it gave up the ghost Ray. Two things, find the folder that you backed up called Organise. Right click on its icon and choose properties this will tell you if it has contents. If it does have contents maybe you would like a go at restoring it. AFTER BACKING UP USING THE AOL SERVER outlined below. PM me if you would like to have a go. I'm sorry I should have told you to close AOL before copying it.
For the future. In the dialogue window that displays your email list there is a button along the bottom edge called SAVE highlight the title of any email you want saved permenently and click the SAVE button you will get the choice to save to either your PC or AOL (their remote server) if you choose the latter your emails will be saved there for eternity, or until AOL packs up, or you go in and delete them. You will also find them saved on your PC in the incoming mail folder as well if you have opened them. You can create folders eg family emails, business emails, work emails etc on the remote server.
Saving your emails on the aol server will also mean that you can access them from any PC anywhere.
Better luck, Dick

Thanks Dick.
I'm looking for the 'organise' file now.
Yes I did start to save some mail on the AOL server. But I think this is a relatively recent option. Once the e-mail has dropped off the OLD MAIL after about a month you can't retrieve it and save online.
After installing a new Hard Drive and operating system all seemed to working well again.
But just two weeks later and with no new hardware of software added the Blue Screen appeared daily until today when it stopped me fully loading all morning.
I get messages ... :-
driver_IQRL_not_less_or_equal
APC_index_mismatch
page_fault_in_non_page_area
IRQL_not_less_or_equal
bad_pool_header
memory_management
Have tried running various system scans and checks but I'm dreading booting up again tomorrow.

Hi Ray
Stop error involving what appears to be the hard drive are practically always the hard drive controller on the motherboard, (i've never seen one that was the drive itself), if i was you i'd put the old hard drive into a usb caddie and partition/format it etc, chances are the drive itself is fine.
were any sets of numbers displayed in brackets in the text you posted above? especially after the driver_IQRL_not_less_or_equal text, if so these numbers are more important than the text itself.
Without the numbers it's very difficult to tell but the message above implies memory, if you have more than one memory module installed, remove some so that there is only one and see if that stops it, often multiple modules won't work together but work fine on their own, download memtest and run that, takes a long time but it may identify memory errors.
hardware not sat correctly and/or heat can cause stop errors (hardware doesn't work correctly when it's out of its temperature range), if you feel up for it; open the pc and remove each peice of hardware one at a time (memory, graphics card, etc) and re-seat then in their slots. clean any dirt/fluff etc from fans and heatsinks, run the pc without the side panel on so you can see that all fans are working and it'll also improve airflow across the components, see if you still get the stop error with the pc like this. always earth yourself against the pc case and/or a radiator or something prior to touching the components, most of them are sensative.
Hello Lee an all.
Seems the Blue Screen has gone and hibernated.
Not sure what fixed the problem as about a week ago I uninstalled a few programs not used and old versions of AOL. I also opened the case and pressed home all plugs and boards including all four RAM boards.
Fingers crossed every morning I boot up again but so far so good. Thanks for the suggestions and help.
