When I purchased my new Dell laptop I asked them to supply it with a clean hard drive. It duly arrived full of the most useless crap including Norton it took me ages to Format the drive and start again with the software I needed.

I have used Norton and McAfee in the past and found them intrusive and problematic, now I use AVG, paid for.

Dump Norton as soon as you can, I have been caught out by all sorts of 'nasties' being 'allowed' by it. Apart from the annoying Yank voice announcing every update Avast is free in its basic form and effective. If you are on the Virgin Media cable network they also do a free anti-nastie service which includes switchable settings for parental control, etc. I run both on my main PC as belt and braces.

I can tell you that Norton has moved on a lot in recent years, do not diss it too much my freinds I have used it continually ever since I have been on the web, over 10 years now.
Granted it was at first a bit of a pain but do not be fooled into believing A.V.G. free ware is better to your cost. Evil or Very Mad
I do not also subscibe to the urban myths that they are in league with the virus/spammer fraternity, I have heared this many times still not proved though, ask yourself why, because the resourses of Norton are on the ball when it comes to virus software. Idea and they do sort them out!

I use Outpost Security Suite.

You have to pay but I have never had any problems. And it is constantly blocking sites trying to scan my computer.

I find reassuring to know that it is working all the time.

It also covers up to 3 computers that you may own and they also offer a life time one off payment.
