Sky mail is google mail. They switch to it a couple of years ago. They had quite a few problems at first so I moved away from it and now have an independant mail provider.
Glad you've sorted. Just to note, however, that you really need to sort out passing your gmail address to your contacts and don't rely on picking up stuff from AOL & Tiscali email accounts. Both companies are now owned by TalkTalk, and it's a matter of time (could be tomorrow, could be in a few years) before they pull the plug on your old accounts.
Only just seen this so not had chance to reply, I know what you are trying to do and fully understand it as I do exactly the same. The service Bt offer and the same service Gmail offer is called imap though you are using a online version of it.
Best option is to get your own domain name (couple quid) and hosting also very cheap, you dont need to have a web site just use the hosting for your domain name email address. You could then have dennis@whateveryouwant.co.uk for very little and it would have no reflection of your isp.
Your hosting account would come with xxxmb of storage, you use this storage to store your email, so however many meg your hosting comes with is how much email you can store. The benifit of this is you can use outlook and outlook express to sort your emal and also your folders so you never have to go to a web page each time you want to check your mail.
Most Isp's offer imap as standard but the amount of storage can sometimes be a problem if you do keep lots of history.
Should you ever decide to pursue this direction then let me know and I will do my best to talk you through it, the main reason for me doing it was so that I was not tied to an isp, its completely self dependant and you can do what you like with it, the other attraction is once you have a domain you have unlimited email addys so you can have wife@whateveryouwant.co.uk and daughter@ son@ you get the idea, its a very small cost and stops you being tied to a certain isp.
Why don't you use Windows Live? It's free and you get 25gb upload storage space. You can login using an existing msn or hotmail account, or, like me, set up a "@live.co.uk" address. The only upload restriction is that individual files are no larger than 50mb.
If you have Vista there is a default link to it in your favourites. It is web-based and has great photo upload software, calender, etc.
