Well I was just trying to warn people that when I was on the MOTORWAY network an lot of the fuel stations (not all but most) had signs up saying "Belgian cards only"

I have no idea about stations off the motorway as I was just passing through.

This was in August just gone

Can't say I've filled up on the motorways for some time. I know the cheapest diesel I've had for sometime however is on the road out of Bruges - from the rail/bus station towards Loppem for the E40/A16 - Automated Esso station on the right side of the road - about 88 or 90 cents a litre SmileSmile

Perhaps as a resident of Belgium I can clear up a few things.

Mr Plod your are correct when you say on the motorway stations you can see the sign "Belgian cards only" but one thing you missed is that this applies on;y to the auto pumps on the forecourt. There are normally two or three rows of these pumps and payment is only by Belgian debit cards or fuel cards. The rest of the pumps are available for all other forms of payment.

For any one planning to travel through Belgium and is not passing Luxembourg the easiest way to find fuel is to use this web site.
Prijs Brandstoffen,
If you click on the link goedkoopste (best price) it gives a list of the best price in each region. you can also get the best price in any area you are from the map or postcode. For instance the best price today is in Liege at 87 cents for diesel.
There is also a link for the prices in Luxembourg which today is 86.2 cents.

Just one more thing is all automatic stations have the bankcontact payment machines (debit) on the pump islands. These do not take credit cards but on many of the stations there is another single machine that takes cash and or credit cards. This a much larger machine usually close to the office building.

I guessed this might be the case but wasn't sure enough to comment earlier.
