Hi, everyone,

My wife & I are planning to 'do' the European coast (Atlantic, Med., possibly Black Sea) over a couple of years in our Bessacarr E450, starting this Sept / Oct.

The DVLA site (http://www.dvla.gov.uk) does explain how to 'export' a vehicle if it is going away for 12 months or more, but this means that you have to register it in another country - which presumably means that you have to have an address. If you're touring thro' different countries, what can be done?Confused

Does anybody have any info?

Thanks,

AngusJ

That's a tricky one, apart from no address in another country to export it to, there is also the other problem of no address for vehicle insurance purposes. Now if what a nice policeman in France told me is true, then your vehicle must comply with the laws of its country of origin even when when abroad, including [he said] a valid tax disc. This will leave you in a bit of a quandary, and although I think he meant EEC countries, there is no way you can get to the Black Sea without driving through an EEC member state. Temporary export of a vehicle or anything else is aimed at export to one country, and for above a certain period of time too. I would be tempted to keep my vehicle registered here, at the home address of someone who you can contact while away, and vice versa.
