Hi. Ive prommised Mrs D a Digital Camera for our next trip (Friday) and I havent got one yet so need to get a move on. Shes never had one and we rely on my Nokia N95 for our snaps. She doesnt want anything too fancy but with a good optical zoom. Nothing too complicated either. She doesnt want an expensive one either. Between £80-£150. I havent got a clue so any recommendations??

Thanks
Barry

Hi Barry

We've got a small Olympus with optical zoom. It's quite small and neat. My brother has a Sony, which he loves. Currys have a Nikon too in that price range.

Search the various retailers websites using the optical zoom range/price as a filter then check the test results on dpreview (camera database) Wink

My wife's little Panasonic Lumix consistently produces incredibly good results - the choice of Leitz as its lens supplier was inspired product design.
I think the latest version falls within your budget.

I have a Panasonic lumix and the latest Samsung ST550 and both are excellent and both have automatic setting for ease of use and have manual mode for special shots. The Samsung has a 4.6 optical zoom and has very few buttons to speak of (touch screen). It also has a quirky fron screen for self portraits etc. But my faourite toy is a Toshiba camelio S10

Thanks everyone. There seems to be loads of Panasonic Lumix cameras, which models are within our budget?

Before I read these posts I found this

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167896

Has x 5 optical zoom for £75. Too good to be true?

Edit: I also just found this on the Argos ebay shop. Its referbished but has 12 month guarentee. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PANASONIC-LUMIX-DMCTZ3-7MP-DIGITAL-CAMERA-REFURB ISHED_W0QQitemZ330366998466QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalC ameras_DigitalCameras_JN?hash=item4ceb6857c2&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l126 2

Cheers

thanks for that. It reads ok until you read the bit about the monitor being hard to see in bright conditions.
