Should be OK to use, but you will need to reformat it from the camera's main menu. This will of course erase all your Tom Tom data. Wink

Ah. Not a good idea then

You may or may not need to reformat and that will depend to an extent on how much spare space there is on the TT card.

However should you need to re-format and you are really desperate to use more than the 50mb internal storage in the camera before the new card arrives - you could just back up the TT data and then re-install it later.

Hi All

The Lumix arrived yesterday and its a great bit of kit, I am very impressed. No memory card yet and we are off on Friday so if it doesnt come tomorrow we will just use the internal memory. I reckon if I cut the res down to 3MP then we should get 30 or so pics on the internal memory.

My next question is- Is 3MP ok for getting prints done say at 6"x4"?

Where is the best place to take the card / camera / cd in to get them printed?

What setting should I have the camera on for prints. I notice it has 3 settings 16:9, 4:3 and 3:2. I have seen 16:9 and 4:3 on tv screens for wide and square (sorry dont know the technical terms yet) so is 3:2 the best setting for prints?

Cheers
Barry

I have just measured a print I had done recently and it is 150mm X 100mm so I guess that is 3:2

It doesn't work for all sizes of paper though - "A" size paper is 1.41 x 1

So that is either 2.82 x 2 or 4.23 x 3 so you will either need to crop the image or end up with white strips along 2 sides.

3MP is more than enough for a 6 x 4 print, for which you'll need to set the camera to 3:2.

Paper sizes are still odd and mostly stuck in the goode olde dayse of film. So quite often your camera format wont match the size of the paper you'd like to use.

It usually means cropping, or losing some of the image to get best fit.

As for where to go for printing - you'll get varying results wherever you go, in my opinion, which is why I always print my own.

However, if you want to try some, do a web search because there are usually plenty of free trial offers around.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. The memory card arrived today and suddenly I can take zillions of pics. I set the picture size to 3:2 and it set its mega pixels to 10.5 automatically. Presumably with this size we will be able to pring bigger phots than 6x4. I discovered that Tesco and Asda have an offer where you get the first 40 pics free (£1.50 p&p) assuming we actually manage to produce 40 pics worth printing I might give them a go

Off in the Morning to (hopefully) sunny Greece!

Cheers
