I have a Macbook 15, and I find that my Sony digital video camera, does not have a mac driver so wont work (unable to capture).

Is there an easy way of installing a program to capture this, or do I have to go the whole way and install a copy of windows as a partition (dont really want to do this).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Steve

Do you have a firewire (IEEE1394) connection? If so no drivers needed.

This pretty much shouldn't be an issue since most Mac's have one, and in this case its an 800.

My only concern is what software you'll use to retrieve the video.

Surely this is the type of application that Macs excel at.

I found that my Sony digicam would not download with Windows Vista - not a Mac issue! Crying or Very sad

It appears that there are compatability issues and we had to go to the Sony website and then download a new system from them, this required having the original CD with it's access passwords etc and codes so you may find the same things are needed for Mac downloads. Confused

Good luck with finding a solution - I do not know anything about Macs - we are entirely Windows based. Sad

Dave

iMovie comes as standard on the MacBook. Should have no issue recognising a camera over USB 2 or Firewire for importing video.

I don't use video so this is simply some general help. Have you searched through the iMovie help files? I see there is an issue if your camera is set to SDL rather than SD mode.

Also, you might care to look through the Apple support pages. The link below takes you to the iMovie support area regarding camera matching. If you click on the first article (iMovie 08 or later - cannot see or control camera) there are instructions for various types. Also, echoing an earlier post, it looks as if Firewire is the best interface to use.

Hope this helps with your search.

Philip

Hi thanks for the replies.

GerryD
Macbook 15 early model does not have firewire, firewire only came in on 2nd model.

richardjames
I have looked on the sony web site, the s/w that you highlight is for DSLR cameras so no good in this instance.

as I say I have visited sony website, but there is not a driver for the camera to work on the mac.

So is my only option to partition and have windows placed on the mac??
