I did our wedding (1964) & kids growing up tapes (standard 8mm) by projecting them onto a white screen then re-recording with a digital recorder.
It worked a treat Smile

I did my son in laws from Canon 8MM to and LG hard drive and dvd re writer. It may be possible and I cannot see why it cannot be plugged straight into Blueray writer which should enhance the pictures and sounds.

Even thought it is 8mm, the output still goes into back of telly or vid recorder so your results are going to be based on what media you pour it into. Blueray, DVD, Hard drive (all digital and thus no futher loss) or VHS with loss.

I don't think I have explained this very well or maybe I have lost the plot but what I have written is good but it depends if it is relevent to your problem. Sad

You would of course need an 8mm vid cam or player to achieve anything at all and beware that the tracking on different makes of 8mm vid cam can vary to the point of no picture at all. Sony uses a tracking line recorded on the tape but others use different systems.

Hi Pusser, I thought the op was talking about wet processed 8mm film, not stored magnetically or have I got this wrong? Confused

Very Happy Ciao tutti and thanks for your replies to my query,
what I have are tapes, not wet film. I have also discovered that none of my other equipment is in working order,i.e. tape player/recorder, or CD/DVD player. May have to just let a professional photographer do it all.
Too complicated for me to go out buying new equipment.
saluti,
eddied

I don't think you can get a 8mm to VHS convertor (wrong format) The convertor I have, which I think you are considering, is the compact VHS to full VHS. Can I suggest a cheap 8mm player off fleabay Shocked Shocked

Ah have I got it hacked then? I have Hi8 is that 8mm or compact VHS?

I always promised myself that I would get my head around this and never did, I just kept throwing the tapes in a drawer and didn't think Laughing

Then of course I started using my camera and then my phone for video clips, and by the time I wanted to use the "video" camera it had died!

Amazingly we were still paying for a warranty on the thing but Curry's pronounced it DOA Crying or Very sad

They wrote it off, gave me £500 quids worth or vouchers and told me to go and get another one. My how they have changed!

I now own a nice bright yellow underwater one that is just a bit bigger than a postage stamp that has 32Gb of memory! It took me ages to work out where the tapes go! Laughing

Eddie
