Have a Canon Digital IXUS 960IS but the shutter lag is causing me real problems.

I have taken this up as a hobby so am looking to upgarde to an digital SLR type camera, with lens change options, no shutter lag and continuous shooting option.

Thoughts please together with costs - we are assuming £400-600 or is this not enough???

Hi. Im a big fan of the canon eos. Ive had a 300d for years now and it is faultless even after all these years and thousands of photo's. Obviously now they are up to 400 or 450d versions which are even better. There are some real bargains to be had second hand with eos. Obviously the less and lower the number in the model number, the better, with the 5d highly regarded and the 1d being as good as it gets. Research and read reviews via google. Accessories for eos are also very plentiful and cheap.

Another vote for the EOS from here. I have the 400D (10Mpx), and it's a beautiful bit of kit. I still haven't got anywhere near stretching its capabilities.

I bought it as a kit from Currys, with bag and 8GB card for about £430 just under a year ago, with £50 cash back.

I'd go for an EOS as well. There's a huge range from the 1000 right up to the IDs. Intuitive to use, good quality and loads of lenses and accessories available.

I too favour Canon. I have an EOS 350D.
I nearly bought a Sony Alpha DSLR though, as their features & quality are cracking. [I had Canon lenses from film camera so that's why I went Canon].

I am also a Canon fan, with the 400D, 17 - 55 mm zoom, 55 - 200 mm zoom and a Meitz flash, very good piece of kit, but if I was spending the money today, I would have the better lens, 18 - 55 mm with the 2.8f.

However its not about the equipment, its about the creative view of the photographer.

Your original camera is a good make, you say you have shutter lag, have you tried taking off the red eye and the AF beam, all this slows down the process of taking the shot.

Yet another Canon man here Very Happy

400D with kit lens 18-55mm and 75-300mm. When I'm good enough to outstretch the capabilities of this kit I'll get better lenses.

we have a canon eos 450d and have to say we love it. I am not that au fait with all it does, but even my aim and shoot pics have suddenly taken on a new light. I wanted a faster reaction time, with two fast dogs I wanted to catch the moment...and so far chuffed to bits.

There have been some bargains on fleabay recently- packages that people not using as much as they should...
