Following on from my earlier thoughts I have replaced the lower wishbones and upper spring bearing points. The wishbones are not easy and require a lot of mussel to remove the 30mm nuts on the long bolts. It became clear that these nuts are tightened to around 255lbs and so pre-load the bushings. When re-assembling, the instruction is to tighten when the suspension is in a pre-determined position. That is easier said than done and is possibly the reason the suspension makes these "bonging" noises from time to time. I have deduced that the noise must come from the springs as they move on their bearings. That implies inadequate pressure at certain times. When I re-tightened the 30mm nuts I allowed the van to sit down on the suspension to ensure the rubber bushes were sitting comfortably. I reckon that if this suspension nut is undone and retightened with the vehicle sitting level than these noises can be eliminated. It also explains why your favourite mechanic cannot find anything wrong when checking. I hope this explaination is not too involved.
I have not heard any noises since doing the work and I have possibly changed the lower wishbones unnecessarily but it will be worth it if I have a quiet life.

20,000 and a 2006 model but as yet i have not heard anything from mine yet , and my early warning system which picks up the slightest noise ( Mrs C ) has not heard anything either, i will watch this just in case its some thing that might occur in the future though.
