Hi there you all,
Yes, we have a Tom Tom satellite system on our vehicle, which we site in the middle of the front screen, about three inches from the base. We did however, have problems with the loss of GPS signal on several occasions and therefore had to get an extension from the company, to mount the Tom Tom Satellite on the roof. We have a Fiat Ducato Carioca 656 and because of the large overhang on the front, we were constantly losing our GPS signal. The extension has now solve that problem for us.

I had the same problem and was told the windscreen has a special mcoating that restricts the signal. What extension did you get and where from. I think I need the same.
Cheers

When you say you mounted it on the roof, was this outside or beneath a skylight, as I am experiencing the same problem.

We had a large overhang before on a Compass Avantgarde 200 and had the odd loss of signal with the anntena on the dashboard. Now we have a low profile Benimar and have no problems other than it seems to 'think about it' for about 10 minutes if it hasn't been used for a while.

Done. Sorry, only had the Benimar 5 days (750 miles already) after a long weekend in Cornwall. Fantastic vehicle, still finding out stuff, full report will appear in a week or two.

I've got the TT Classic and like those earlier I am experiencing difficulty in holding a signal. I'm almost certain that my Ducato has got no coating on the screen so it must be something to do with the luton on my 590rl.
From earlier posts here and in other places it looks like an external receiver is the solution.
I'd be very interested in your views on this and the following please.
a. If mounting the receiver high up on the luton is the receiver likely to come with sufficient cable? Shouldn't be a problem running a cable through the Ducato doors.
b. Any suggestions on attaching the receiver to the luton? Velcro/suction pad.
c. Has anyone used one of their roof vents to mount the receiver? If so has it worked well?
d. With the TT Classic is it just a case of plugging the receiver into the little socket on the mount?
e. Any suggestions on price/best place to purchase.
As always your advice would be appreciated.
Regards
bill

Hi Bill
I dont have a Tom Tom but I can answer a few of your questions from my own experience with an external reciever.
a. Yes, it will have enough cable to run from the roof of the luton to the cab, I used the roof vent to run the cable rather than through the door.
b. Mine came with a magnetic base and the option of an adhesive pad. I used the adhesive pad.
c. Yes, it worked very well, I had no problems with reception.

Hi Welshman and all,, some months ago I purchased the TT Go 300 for our van, a Swift Suntor 600s, and we had problems with keep losing the sat signals due to the luton overhang, I eventually bought an external antenna from

which completely solved the problem.
Sited the reciever end of the antenna on the luton roof with velcro sticky back stuff, and fed the wire through the side luton window and back down to the dashboard, and still have plenty of spare wire.
It solved our loss of signal altogether, and we have travelled hundreds of miles since and always get full satellite signal on the unit, now never travel without our little Tomtom, gets us to all sorts of places with no fuss.
Hope this is of some help.
