If you go to this link, http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0026123.asp?model=, download the driver vu600en.exe ; when that is installed on your machine try connecting your camera, it may solve the problem but if it doesn't I am afraid you seem to be stumped as apparently Canon have not produced a 300D driver for Vista, see here; http://forums.techarena.in/vista-hardware-devices/652031.htm and here http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/924023.htm ; then go here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms792271.aspx ; The Microsoft site states: "If your camera supports PTP, all you need to do is plug in your device to get it installed as a WIA device. The Microsoft PTP WIA Minidriver will do the rest." Try setting you camera to PTP rather than 'connect to PC' in the camera's menu, I am not familiar with the 300D but thats where you change the setting in the 5D

The other link in my previous post; http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010037.asp takes you to various other 300D software which I mistakenly called drivers in my original post, there some are drivers listed for XP, etc., but none for Vista. When I first connected my 5D to a vista machine it would not download RAW files, I downloaded file 21, Canon RAW codec (1.6) and it fixed the problem.

Thanks JB,

I you go back a couple of posts, you'll see the the PTP idea sorted the problem, I posted the Canon reply in case it was of help to others.

I'm Going to have to find a different method for the Ixus430 though as that doesn't support PTP.

Sort of underlines why I recommend using a Card Reader. Smile

Kev....

To go back to your original question about the DCIM folder name - why do you want to rename it back to 100? I don't think it will make any difference but that's just a guess.

Either way you could just rename it using Explorer or a better approach would be to Format the card in the camera....once you've got the images of it that is.

I have tried formatting the card Colin, I even tried again just now after reading your post, but the two folders are still there, which is very strange, I think I might try to format it in my camera then see what comes up.

I'll report back.

OK, the card has just been formatted in the 300D and then the 400D, see pics below, they're of Explorer looking at the 300D's card on my 400D.

I then put the card back in the 300D, but it still shows the CF card as before, the card is a SanDisk Ultra 2 1gb.

Even with a user name like Pixelpusher, I think this might be pushing to far, it's just odd, even if we accept that the cameras are different, and might write to the card differently, I can swap the cards back and forth between the two cameras, and view the pictures on them, but Explorer should see them the same as it's only a folder.

Just going to try putting the 400D card in the 300D then let explorer look at it.

Kev.

Kev....

I would only recommend Formating the cards in the camera anyway, so let me know how that goes.
