No full test and even the comments are temporarily 'off line'.
However should be more than adequate in real life, however it's not quite a dSLR!

No doubt someone will find a test.

My OH has the S1000 which is very good.

Cant comment on that one but i have the S5700 which is the 10x zoom version http://www.dpreview.com/news/0702/07022210fujis5700.asp and have had it for 2 years and am delighted with the quality and ease of use.

I have an S9600, which is a large bridge camera. Excellent pictures except for the weak flash.

i have an s1500 and i think for the price you will not get a better camera.
the only down side is that in video mode you can here the auto focus on the video but i knew this when i bought it and i do not tend to use alot of video any way.
it is dead easy to use and has a decent battery life and is small enough to slip into your pocket. i have had some great results often better than my mates
£900.00 canon dslr and i dont have to hump it round in a rucksack.

I have the S8100fd which is similar body shape to the s1500.

I have been very pleased with it. It has a 18x zoom lens which holds focus right up to maximum zoom.

It has enough modes to satisfy most snappers and makes SLR's with their interchangeable lens and filters appear quite clunky.

incidentally, you can buy good refurbished cameras direct from fuji at

https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/view-all

I've had several and they are as new and a massive saving. Dont think they have this one tho.

Sometimes you can find discount / promotional codes by googling. PJUNE09TKS did work. Maybe its PJAN10TKS now.

I have a s1500, not had it long but up to now results very good, what decided me is that I find using the normal display on digital cameras in bright sun a bit iffy, a case of pointing in the general direction and hoping. The electronic viewfinder on the s1500 solves this There is not a lot of choice of digital cameras with a separate viewfinder unless you go down the more expensive SLR route.

I received mine yesterday and went out in the snow snapping. Even though I used the wrong settings I got some great quality pics. It really is a step up from my Sanyo vpt 850 digital. The colour rendition is much better. I like the conveniance of the sanyo slip it in a t shirt pocket. But for what I paid for it , disapointed in quality.
