Not gone through the process as when we enquired we were not eligible. However when we were looking to purchase a motorhome we were advised that you need to supply the company you are purchasing with the letter that advises what income you get and the letter that states you as being disabled. I did call the DWP who also advised me that it depends on what the modifications that the motorhome would need to accomodate a disabled person to what entitlement you get in terms of paying no VAT.
Be very carefull as its a minefield, dont be mislead by an over keen salesman who promises the earth.
It is far too complicated to post all the conditions but your froend is very welcome to call Gill Jones, my general manager and she will be pleased to advise him further as to the correct proceedure.
Donaghey's in Letterkenny Co Donegal are very helpful. I have had several dealings with them and when i can afford to change my camper, i will definatly be putting my business their way. I also know that they sell modified campers to the disabled. phone no. 00353 74 91 29235

The main points are the person for whom the vehicle is purchased has to need a wheelchair for mobility (or need a stretcher) and the vehicle needs to be adapted for their use.
Whoa-here we go again, VAT exemptions for disabled people purchasing motorcaravans and so early in the New Year!
The link posted above by Dave is explicit but the interpretation is reliant on the staff of the local VAT office. I know of one motorhome dealer who chose not to use his local VAT office because of this.
Keeping my head down just below the parapet I await the onslaught from those who have absolutely no idea what it costs, both in monetary and non monetary terms, to have a disability that affects one's day to day existence.
Any help I as a person with disabilities receive from anyone is greatly appreciated be it the government, my family, my friends and my acquaintances.
As sure as eggs are eggs, unless I am very much mistaken, there will be references soon here to blue badges, winter fuel allowances and free bus travel for the over 60s.
No reference though I expect to the number of people, many of whom have never paid into the system, who clutter up our hospitals and A & E department through smoking, excessive drinking, drug taking and bad driving who are total drains on the country’s purse.
As I said, I am here now with my head just below the parapet!
