Just thought i would post the sort of comparisons that i got today phoning around for our renewals.

We have a Euramobil Integra 690HB A Class Worth approx £45,000
I am 38 and Julie is 31
MH Fitted with Vanbitz Strikeback with SMS Text Option
The motorhome is to be put in storage on a campsite storage area not a big COSOA place

We wanted a policy that would allow us to go abroad with the least hassle as possible for however long we wanted to and preferably some form of breakdown cover included.

After phoning around 5/6 companies i made my choice on Safeguard as it fitted the bill perfectly. As a MHF Member you also get discount with them of 5% so this bought the policy down a little more as well Smile

I ran through the online quotation system and then followed this up with a phone call to check a few items not catered for online.

Here are the comparisons below of safeguard against other companies:-

NFU Mutual 0800 316 4661
Need 3 days or more to prepare quote as have to contact underwriters

MCIA 0870 3661245
Won't insure for this high value unless have full No Claims Discount to use on the policy.

MotorCaravan Wise 01425 280078
Answerphone a few times, but the message states they will call you back if on a landline (Which i'm not)

Budget 0800 0725457
Can match our car No Claims Discount of 9 years even though only got 1 year mh NCD
contents cover £2000
Max per item of £200
Contents cover up to £2,000.00
Excess £250.00
Legal - £100,000.00
European Travel up to 90 days at a time
No Breakdown cover
Total Annual Cost £492.78
Monthly Cost £45.59 X 10 plu a single payment of £100.96 = £556.86

Adrian Flux 08000 838833
Would need to have a tracker installed before being considered and then estimate £600+

Safeguard 0800 138 9694
Contents covered up to £2000
£250 individual item limit,
£500 is for valuable items
Excess £200.00
Windscreen Cover Excess - £60
Legal Cover £50,000
European Travel - As much time as you like in Europe, no need to contact them
European Breakdown Cover included (homestart relay/relay start etc)
Annual Policy cost £517.31 (Including MHF 5% Discount)
Monthly Cost £47.42 X 10 plus Single £94.84 = £569.04

I also phoned Comfort but as we havent actually moved into property yet they would still classify us as full timers and that comes with an associated high price tag of over £900. They were also a little twitchy about the Storage aspect on the policy.

I will be renewing my policy through Safeguard as their policy caters for our lifestyle nicely with little fuss needed about breaking down either here or on the continent and no need to contact them when we go abroad and get back etc. Smile

If you want to get an online quote like i did initially then simply click on the Swinton advert on the front page on the right hand side or click on the link below:-

Shocked Adrian Flux was my cheapest quote. But Baker's through Norwich Union allowed me 12 months and unlimited mileage so I went with them. Safeguard didn't want to know. Rolling Eyes

Hi Nuke,

That Safeguard quote seems a reasonable price.

What about Green Card cover for Morocco, Turkey, Cyprus and such like, did you check that out?

Beware of small print with Caravan Guard! We had a stone chip in our A-class windscreen in France in mid June this year. The chip soon became 3 cracks which were not repairable. As our van is made in Brittany we ordered a new screen from Socodim Loisirs who are the nearest agent to the factory. It took a week to come and then a whole day to fit as it needed 5 hours setting time before we could drive. The bill was 2000 euros which we had to pay on credit card. The crunch is our insurer will only pay out £1000 for windscreens without affecting our NCB. It is now 2 months on and still no reimbursement. Another phone call today said the problem was the bill was 'in foreign'.When passed to the overseas claims dept. it appears they have lost the invoice!

Freind of mine has a 1989 Sunsport (american rv)and during the winter months, water got in between the front screen seals and glass, this froze one severe cold night resulting in a cracked screen, the seals, trims and the screen were not available anywhere here in UK and had to be imported, (took 11 weeks to get here) total cost parts and labour of replacement screen fitted at home ...£5632.72.

He got £150 out of Insurance Co. Shocked

hi dave

ive just looked out the documents to check and (sorry to say ) Embarassed ive actually taken a policy with m.c.i.a. , who isnt safeguard but actually lifesure as they use more than one name and my insurance is actually with a company called nig , im sure i got a safeguard quote but must have found cheaper ?, i also get full europe 365 days cover and mega contents cover .

i do tend to get mixed up with all the names as i run 4 seperate policies every year and remembering who is who gives me a headache on a good day .

apologies Sad for the previous post . its way past my bedtime Laughing Laughing
i will try them again next year though Wink
