Well finally got down to terms with developers and the app is now in development
details hammered down are as follows:-
1. The App is called iSites
2. Will have very similar functionality to an app called AroundMe if anyone has seen it
3. Available for use on Touch and iPhones (will use the gps functionality if available)
4. will allow offline access to the mhf campsite database on the road
5. Automatic over the wire updates so the app will always be up to date
6. Find sites by category as follows:-
1. Certificated Location (CL)
2. Certificated Site (CS)
3. Caravan Club Site (CC)
4. Camping and Caravanning Club Site (CCC)
5. Aire De Service (France)
6. Aree Di Sosta (Italy)
7. Stellplatz (Germany)
8. Municipal Campsite
9. Independent Campsite
10. Open All Year Campsites
11. France Passion Campsites
12. Pub Stopovers
13. Wild Camping Spots
14. Campsites With Internet
selecting a category will show a list of summary info for sites matching within a configurable radius of either gps location or town centre
Can then show detailed info for the entry by clicking on it, or click on show map to see a map showing all the sites in your area and your own location
Will also be able add sites to a brochure facility to easily look them up
You will also be able to use the app to submit new entries using inherrent gps / camera facility and a simplified version of the normal add campsite form.
Quite excited about this little app as can use it myself on my own iPhone
App Price will be around £5-7, I need to take account of enrolling as an an iPhone Developer in order to submit my app to the app store which costs $99 no wonder Apple is so cash rich !!!
well the only two options I have managed to Google are selling to users who have hacked i.e. Jailbroken phones (MHF demographic this is going to be highly unlikely and very limited market) or selling via Ad-Hoc which is against Apples rules and could entail the app being pulled from the App Store and very limited market again lol
I think tbh Apple have shoehorned developers into this setup and even though its high commission, it is a huge market out there for the right apps

Dave, does that mean it will run on my Windows Mobile 6.5 touch HTC HD2 phone as well?
If so, I am definitely interested..... think it will be a great idea, and no doubt you will also be able to sell it through ODB for those people like me who don't have an iphone and there may then be other outlets for it if it works with WM touch phones.

I have been very impressed with AroundMe, apart that it does tend to be out of date for long periods.
If your app is as user friendly as AroundMe and up to date it will be a hit!!
