Just as photography and pets are motorhome friendly hobbies so is family history Very Happy

Once you get into it you find that you need to visit your ancestor's place or birth or marriage or death for more information. I have ancestors from London, Sussex, Kent, Ireland, Languedoc.

I would love to correspond with like minded people on here Very Happy

Hi Pat.
I agree. Anything that can be done in your living room can be done in a MH with the bonus that you can often visit the places you are investigating for a semi long term stay. Any with the upsurge ini mobile internet its even easier now.

I am doing my family history research at the moment but keep coming up against a brick wall on my dads side when researching grandad. I know where his war grave in in France as i have visited it in Bray-Sur-Somme but his ascendants are a bit of a mystery. But its a time consuming hobby but theres no rush is there.

Phill

I agree to as I have had a great time travelling around the country to trace records of my Ancestors.
The people that work in the Records Offices are so kind and help you as much as they can.
Here is a Painting we found of my GGGrandad as it was found painted on glass and he was born in 1797.
Although a French Refuge from the Revolution and of Royal Parentage he became a Fish Salesman in Billingsgate and ran a very successful business.
It has been a joy tracing the story of which there has been 2 books written about him.

My wife and I started research into our ancestors about 12 months ago. My ancestors were coal miners and my GGrandad John was killed in a pit accident in Audley.

My wife's Uncle Frank was killed in Sicily in 1943.

We've visited the Diglake Pit site remains many times. We are off in the van in 2010 to Frank's war grave.

Still researching...

I'm with you on this one !

I've got paupers, princesses, dukes, ,emigrants, immigrants, asylum residents, medal winners, revolutionaries and even a murderer among my ancestors.

Apart from what you learn about them your knowledge of geography, politics, history, social history, law, fashion etc etc etc increases hugely as you delve further. You also make a lot of friends and meet a lot of relatives along the way.

Beware, it can become an obsession !

As Nuke himself recently posted that he has been taking an interest in his own family history I would think that this is a request he will find hard to resist.
He'll have a designated forum here in which to place all his queries. Smile

Family history is a great and rewarding hobby and having a MH makes visiting different areas for research so much easier. I have 'finished' my wife's family, my mother's family and nearly there with my father's side of the family. Best piece of advice I was given before I started nearly ten years ago was 'make sure you have the evidence'. There is no good saying you are related to so and so if you can't prove it.

Look forward to the new addition to the forum.

dave

Thanks to the 1881 census records I know my Grandmother's father, John Veitch was an able seaman on a two year world voyage. I wonder if he knew Private George Capper or Henry Arthur Sewell - neither of whom made it through to the end of the voyage.
