I looked at people like Photoguard and found them expensive in my opinion. However, the problem I found with many household and travel insurance policies is the limit they place on any one item, which in many cases wasn't enough to cover the individual bits of my equipment.

In the end I got some travel insurance from Churchill that allows for an increased allowance to £750 per item. Still not enough for some bits but I'll take the risk on the difference.

Hi Colin, is that an extra £750 on top of another amount? Because that wouldnt come close to covering my toys. I think I will go with someone like photoguard... or find travel insurance company who will 'extend' my policy to some camera gear... perhaps an addon like you say.

No, that's £750 per item up to a maximum total claim of £3k I think and like you it doesn't cover the full value of some of my toys - but I had to draw a line at how much I could afford and how much of a risk I would cover.

Insurance is one of those items that play on our fears that something may actually happen to us.

In all my years of home, car, and other insurance I've paid more in premiums than I've actually made claims for.

None of which stops me from having it - just in case. Wink
