I withdraw my statement about wiring the Solar panels in series.
I've looked at my supplied "WellSee" literature, and I agree that it certainly looks as if the solar panels cannot be wired in series.
I sorry if I mis-led people, however my original research into MPPT controllers certainly lead me to believe that. The supplied literature leaves a lot to be desired, it's not exactly well laidout and a bit short on detail. Certainly in theory they could be able to do it as they employ a dc to dc converter. However theory is no good if someone blows up their MPPT controller.

However, the last thing I want is someone to buy a MPPT controller and be disappointed. I am certainly happy with mine.

No problem. Information about quite a few of the regulators is a bit iffy. i.e. many quote 10A or 20A output but do not mention the input, which leaves us to presume they are 10 or 20A input. But are they?

Well after some 6+ months this post has been worth it I guess as it has generated ideas and interest.

I for one have reached the conclusion that it is worth replacing my Stecca PWM with a MPPT.

My next question is does anyone know of a supplier that offers a dual output MPPT controller similar to the old Morningstar Duo?

I actually split some of my panels to feed to separate battery banks

I've just come across this "Power Integrator" from Amperor who are known for their 12v dc to dc voltage stabilisers.

http://www.amperorassociates.co.uk/c-DC_power_suppli es/PowerS-PI.html

For £170 this bit of kit seems to integrate:

1. MPPT solar/wind regulator
2. Battery to battery charger
3. Battery master

Looks pretty amazing and seems to do all that anyone could wish for, lets see if the resident experts agree.

I have fitted an MPPT regulator today. The sky is cloudy and grey with no direct sun, the suns position in the sky is low, I have 2x110A panels and I am getting a varying charge between 400ma and 1.5A I have an ammeter which I can see is varying in ampage a lot more than the old PWM charger so things are definatly different.

A side by side comparision would be very interesting.

Unfortunatly I dont have the setup to do it. Although I do know what my old PWM regulator did under certain conditions.

I must say that looks the business. I need to look at a manual though to be certain. Need to see how it integrates with an existing split charge system.

If I can blag a couple of MPPT controllers I shall be doing some side by side tests. Three way change over switch to select the controllers (cheepie, expensive and normal) and a digital ammeter in series with the output to the battery.

Any offers??

(Perhaps ODB could sponser these tests??)

That would be great. With cheapie do you mean PWM? If not, it would be interesting to include that.

When I was looking for a controller I noticed not all regulate to the same voltage (some allow choice according to battery type, others don't), which obviously can make quite a difference.
