Hi the key code light stays on our 2002 2.8d fiat ducato and so we can't start our motorhome.
We have got our five digit key code from Fiat through the garage and they told us to hold down the accelerator turn ignition then lift foot off accelerator and count the key flashes for each digit of code but our key code light just stays on permanently. Looking at the handbook we realise this is for Petrol not diesel engines. It says there take to a main dealer but how if we can't start it? Anyone got any suggestions how to programme it or can we just get key reprogrammed? All help gratefully received thanks.
Hi, have you tried another key, you could call out a auto lock smith, I don't know where you are but my brother is one and he is in Suffolk. Odds are that's what the dealer will do anyway.
We had this trouble a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a n intermittent fault on the 'Key Recognition Module. The fiat dealer found it with the aid of their plug in diagnostic gadget, from memory it cost about £125
Hi McGran.
We has a similar problem where the van would not start and the key symbol was lit.
Turned out to be a simple fuse in the glove box.
Not sure which one now but as I remember it was a 20a near the left hand end.
It won't hurt to check.

Hi
Thanks for all of your suggestions we'll go back tommorrow to the lock up and check the fuses (something we would never have thought of). Yes we have the Red key and have tried all the three keys we have but will try again with the 1st notch suggestion failing that it will probably be the auto Locksmith or the main dealer to get a test thanks again. I'm not sure how we'd get it to the dealer. We are in greater manchester and I think the problem is the fact it diesel not petrol for manually reprogramming. thanks again. McGran

It would also be worth looking at the lower row of fuses in the fuseboard in the glovebox, but beware as these fuses are sometimes shared by other equipment on the van that may be causing the fuse to blow (such as aux lighting etc). You should find it being one of the centre fuses on the lower row

we will have a look but will probably end up with an auto electrician unless it is really apparent as with our luck we'll probably end up blowing all the electrics if we start blindly fiddling.
