I have started to make enquiries as to how much it would cost to get a portable PC/Laptop version of the Campsite Reviews created. I originally was thinking along the lines of DVD/CD but the size of the database and technology leaps means a USB Key would be easier now.

I have held off doing this for a long time now and even attempted a version myself, but it didn't do everything I wanted so didn't release it.

The new version i want to have campsites actually plotted on a map and work along very similar principals to our online version.

Pre-requisites are platform independence (Mac / PC) and portability and non reliance on internet connectivity

I want it to be auto updating i.e. whenever you wish to download any new / modified entries you simply click an update button on the front end menu and it would connect to the site and download new entries to the USB Key.

The pricing I think will be around the £15-20 mark inclusive of postage and as it is auto updating would be a one-off cost for an always up to date product.

Could you please add your vote if you are interested in purchasing.

the problem with both of your requirements Derek, is that the development cost is going to be initially higher and secondly I don't like the idea of a downloadable version as it would be minutes before pirate versions were floating around online Wink

I like the idea, but is it to be a download or not as the OP said it is, then later you don't want it to be a download.

As it's sort of the same topic I'd be happy if the current version would work as it should, IE not disappear when you navigate away from the map page to view a review, and why is "wild camp" invisible til you scroll down, is it bigotry Laughing Laughing (see thread today)

I never said the program would be downloadable, i was referring to the addition of new entries, i.e. as new Campsite Reviews get added to the site it would be possible to sync in the USB Key content Smile

as for your other feedback Kev, can you elaborate as never seen any issues before ?

Good idea download would be best I think but with a password supplied by you?Trying to make it more secure.
Also if it included wild camping and aires.

USB with updates downloadable would be the way to go. I still would like an Android version as well.
