Hi there,
My MEOS 20" portable LCD TV/DVD was bought for use on a 12Vdc supply in my Motorhome. Unfortunately I have just come home after a weekend away without electrical hookup where I found that the TV picture would go blank if I tried to run a DVD or if I was on TV and the blown air heating kicked in. I believe that this was due to a voltage drop problem which the TV appears to be overly sensitive to. I checked the voltages and my batteries are showing a healthy 12.7v with no load or 11.5v when 'on-load' which seems quite normal.
As the TV is a popular model with the caravan and motorhome fraternity I am sure I must have a faulty unit.
Most LCD TVs are sensitive to voltages - 11.5volts is not enough
Same problem here with a Tesco's Technika TV, it really does need exactly 12v (which the supplied mains adapter gives) and will cut off if it doesn't get it.
Like me you need a new battery - I've just bought one at the Peterborough Show, just got to get around to fitting it.
Yep.. Definatly sounds like your battery supply and not your TV.
We used to have a similar problem with loss of picture as soon as anyone went for "tea or pee" As soon as they run the water pump we lost the picture but sound remained. Turn on and off and it was all fine again.
We now have 2 new batteries (instead of just one) plus an 80w solar panel so can get a bit more TV for the kids on rainy nights..

Thing is I fitted two new 110AH batteries just last year and I am sure that they are in good condition.
I have just tried the TV in my car without the engine running. Power up and runs DVD fine, switched on headlights for a minute all ok, switched on heater blower for a minute all ok, switched on rear screen demister - picture lost!
It sounds like this set is overly sensitive to voltage to me which is strange for a set that is aimed at this market. My friends cheap 15" unit bought from Currys was working fine on his batteries which were showing less than 11v under full load.
I'd love to hear from anyone else with this TV so that I can deecide if mine is deffective and needs to go back!

Steve,
We have a Meos tv and have used it whilst wild camping on 12v, I know my leisure batteries are okay (2 x 120aph) and cope okay with it but it does pull just over 2.5amps. Have had no probs running DVDs or when connected to a media hard drive also of course on 12v at the same time.
Regards
Mike

Steve,
If you are seeing only 11.5v at the battery "on-load" there might be someting wrong with it as, with the total current you are likely to be carrying at the time (c.10 amp ), I wouldn't think the voltage shouldn't drop that low.
If that's not the case and the battery voltage is >12 volts, but you are seeing 11.7 v at the TV then the cable size is too small causing a high volt drop.
On a general point, we now have our third 15.4" MEOS in 18 months - the previous 2 having failed. the first with a failed TV and the second with a failed DVD. We had purchased from wedodigitaland they replaced both with only one question - if it failed on 12 volt battery, did it work on the mains power pack. This suggests they know these units are very voltage sensitive.

I too have or had a 20" Meos tv/dvd, have had problems with the screen freezing on Digital broadcasts and a couple of weeks ago just failed altogether, only green led lights when the power is turned on. WeDoDigital asked me aswell if i was using it on 12v or the 240 adapter!! makes one wonder why! Its gone back and i'm waiting to see if it'll be replaced. Lasted 10 months!!!
