We had poor reception on our Tv for a long time until i put the ladders up again'st the van and dismantled the Status aerial. The co axial connections in the "flying saucer"where all rusty!I cleaned it all up and reconnected the cable. We had good pictures therafter.Wished i had thought to do it 2years before!!If yours is an older van you could check that.

Just spent ages messing about with the cable....the connecter that fits into the bix in the van was loose so I have re-fitted it....it now gives me channel 4 on analogue (barely waychable though) but not the other 3 channels we get here.

Given the old Status flying saucer is so rubbish anyway I am wondering about 2 options:
1. the cheapest possible suitcase satellite job
2. a directional aerial on a pole attached to the bike rack as the TV has freeview built in.

Losing the will to live over it as I don't want/can't spend much on this.

I would much prefer a system that I don't have to mess around with / set up/ take down when going out etc, but can't afford a £120+ and fitting for the 530.

Also how does the cable fit through the van....on a really wet day the door wouls need to be closed.

Any more ideas guys??

Hi Julie

:: THIS is the one we had fitted to our van when we bought it. It works pretty well, and much better than the flying saucer we had on our old van. However, there are still times when we can't get a signal on it. We've now invested in a satellite dish, which means we can get TV whenever we want it. It all depends on how much you want to watch TV, and how much money you have available to throw at it Wink

Gerald

Edit: Just seen your latest reply Embarassed Suitcase satellite jobs can be had for £50 - £70 when they're on special offer at various Lidl, B&Q and Aldi stores. I've seen lots of people running the (quite thin) cable through a window, and closing the window onto the cable. The rubber seal around the window has enough 'give' to allow it through.

More q's!!

Will the Maplin suitcase work in northern Scotland? I saw somewhere that a bigger dish is needed?

Another alternative would be to get a new/secondhand 315....and hope I get a picture then? Reasoning is that it would fit in the same place I suppose unless Status have changed the fitings on newer versions. I presume mine is a 315....might be an older model.
Thoughts?

We also use a cheap suitcase style satelite dish.I have fitted on the outside of the van an aerial socket. This is i think a maxview(ebay)I have fitted the one with two sockets. One for normal plug in type aerial connector and one for the screw on satelite plug.I then plug in either one.We use the normal type when we are on sites with poor reception but plug ins on the electric hook posts.and the other when we deploy the satelite dish.We have used ours in Scotland to France without too much problems.get a good compass!!With a portable dish you can position it so that you have a clear view of the sky.You don't have to worry about moving the van to give a clear view!!
