......further.....the motorhome at the moment is pretty much empty and I have just looked again at the 'rubber spring' bumpstops. They are definately touching. I know that when I have some stuff onboard and the trailer with Smart car on the back that the front does feel better, lighter.
Can I ask - when you had a new spring fitted did the 'rubber springs' still touch your suspension?
Just trying to convince myself that my front springs are OK. I know when ever I see another of these or similar motorhomes on the 616 that they look low at the front and when quickly checking underneath the rubber is in contact. (I have seen quite a few as I am a warden with the caravan club).
Also, ours has 38,000 miles on it - surely springs should last longer? Our ride at the moment sounds very similar to what you describe before you changed to the air cells. We have done about 10,000 miles as it is and to be fair it's OK.....we can certainly live with it but if it's possible to get the improvement you describe for 150 then I have to have a go!
I've finally reached the end of the road on this subject.
In the summer hols we visited the Goldschmitt technik centre at Walldurn and had the front transverse spring modified.
To say that having work done at a German facility was a pleasure would be an understatement. Their aire was gorgeous, they opened at 7:30, they were ready for our arrival and didn't have to waste days looking for parts, etc, etc...
In fact the technician (for they really are technicians) said he thought it would take three hours and in precisely three hours it was ready.
They used one leaf of my original spring and replaced the other with one of theirs, keeping the AirCells I had fitted.
The result is that we have a good inch of space between the AirCell and the lower suspension arm and then the rest of the travel is cushioned by the AirCell.
I would not say the ride is like gliding on a carpet of air but most small bumps are now un-noticeable whereas large bumps are still bumps but don't threaten to dislodge the internal fittments or crack the glass as was the case 16 months ago when I first started this process.
Cost was 600 Euros, normally 900 Euros if they are to supply and fit AirCells.
