I believe the only accurate way to work out your MPG is by filling to the neck, doing the miles then filling to the neck again.

Then divide the gallons used (litres to gallons multiply by .22) in to the miles travelled.

Good information on the stalling thing although I too haven't really had a problem with it, maybe it's less noticeable on panel van conversions but I'll mention it at the next service time.

Cheers,

Greg

Hello again ,

On starting the van (2009 Duetto 2.4 RWD) after the recent bad weather to give it a run - which I usually do every week or two when not away, it showed a 'Service Oil Now' with a yellow warning light which even when cancelled returned every time I restarted.

It's not due a service till the end of March so I booked it in for the oil warning and mentioned I'd heard there was an upgrade for a stalling problem when moving off.

Although I too never thought of it as a fault and just the way the van drove, I'm amazed at the difference, it's totally transformed the drive, I suppose I'd just got used to the way it was before and compensated. Instead of a tendency for the revs to die when driving off, the revs now rise to meet the load - it's like driving a different van and I can even move off on the level gently letting out the clutch without touching the 'go' pedal. The upgrade fixed the false oil warning too.

I'm told they won't automatically do this stalling 'fix' unless you mention it when your van's in for service etc. but that may not apply countrywide.

One other thing, previously when first turning on the ignition key prior to starting, there was always an audible 'beep' which since the upgrade it now doesn't do - strange - so now I don't know whether it should or shouldn't 'beep'.

Thanks for highlighting this.

Cheers,

Greg.

Ours is just coming upto 3 this month end. 2.4 140 RWD and it runs a treat, not had the stalling problem but not getting anywhere near 37mpg.
On the motorways I tend to stick at 60mpg with CC on where possible. I have had over 30mpg out of it in France but 29/30 seems to be the average now on normal long runs, assorted roads in the UK. I think this is ok as the van is hardly aero dynamic.
Will check its onboard figures, not done it for a while.

There is a marked difference in fuel consumption between the 2.2 and the 2.4.

Our 2.2 never gives less than 30mpg and is usually 33 to 34mpg.

The ECU stalling upgrade even improved the figures.

We too have had the stalling upgrade done and its made a load of difference. Now we can take it out of the drive easily and pull off at roundabouts without panicking. The drive is a lot smoother now.
Our radio in the van turned out to be a dud too and after 3 goes Ford sorted the problem out. Glad we have a ford not a Fiat.
