We have seen people stood on the roof of their motor home but when we washed ours and did the roof we were very sceptical about actually denting the roof or doing some unseen damage.

We have a roof rack, well bars on the sides with a couple of cross rails but I would not trust these either, we placed some wood planks across them to walk on when washing.

Whats the advice from you knowledgeable folk about this please?

My first bit of advice is. Fill in your location in your profile, then if you need help someone local may offer to come to your rescue.

My second bit of advice is. It depends on weather the van roof is aluminium or GRP. aluminium dents so much easier that I would always either keep off or use a board to spread the weight. A stone in the tread of your shoe can puncture the surface, and kneeling down can dent it. If it is GRP you are usually OK to walk on it with clean non gritty shoes.

When working on a van roof you must also be very careful not to slip. A dirty green roof is very slippery and a lot of cleaners are very slippery, especially some of the RV roof cleaners.

Ours was designed to be walked on, but I don't know if it you could put chairs up there and enjoy the view.

If you need to be up there for maintenance, a bit of carpet and some plywood should make it less of a problem, carpet works twofold, it protects and eases any damage caused by localised pressure and stops the plywood from sliding out from under you

Both coachbuilts I have owned and the one my parents own have all had something written in the user manual. my first said 70kgs, this one says 85Kgs and I can walk about on them. I keep my Kayak on so I have grip tape on the roof to stop me slipping.

I'm 21 stone and i walk about on mine - the van came supplied with a ladder on the rear wall to access the roof.

Think it depends on the construction of your roof, as others have said.

Thanks one and all for all the info with some good advice and tips. It came with a ladder and the rack so I guess it can be walked on but better to be safe than sorry.

Regarding 3 Counties, they are caravan dealers but Tony there is fantastic getting any Rimor parts for us. Really good company I have found.

Very Happy

Thanks for that they are really good at getting parts from Rimor even though they are really caravan dealers. Rimor Italy not bad but can be slow to respond sometimes. Very Happy
