Hi,
Just bought a C.I Carioca 644 from a dealer, that was was sold to me as a 2.3 JTD and the reg date is 9\12\2004 but when i got my log book back it said the MH was a 2.0, the van has done only 1800 miles and i really like it but i don't want something thats out of date. The dealer has offered me a £750 refund and take care of all servicing until warranty has expired or they have offered me a full refund which is £21,000 the van new was about £27,500.
What should i do 1. give the van back. 2. keep the van because it will not make much difference.
I think the van was a good buy but i am new to motorhomes.
Any ideas what to do please.
Van looks like new.
Thanks Matt.

Hi Matt

Sounds as if you got a good buy there?

First thing to check is whether it really is a 2.3 or a 2.0, log books can often be wrong. Secondly, did you do a HPI check? If not then do one. Often log book discrepancies can be due to vehicles being "ringed" so check very carefully the VIN numbers and engine numbers against the documentation (log book and service book).. Provided that they check out OK and there are no signs of tampering then I would say take the dealers money and enjoy the van.

Laughing Hi subaru. If you are happy with the Motorhome taking into what gaspode says to check out. I would go for it. Sound like a good buy to me. Wink

Thanks for comments

HPI has been done, (all ok) i also have main dealer back up as they have just taken on C.I. It must have been the very last of the old engines in the new model and the MH runs fast enough so maybe i best stivk with it. Dont think i can replace it for that money anyway.

Hi Subaru - Is it a turbo-diesel?

If you do eventually find that it's not got the power, or the performance is insufficient, then consider having it "turbo'd" by someone like TB Turbos (

Yeh she is turbo.
It wasn't so much the performance its more to do with buying maybe an old style engine.

Don't worry that is an old engine, it certainly isn't. Some are specified with 2.0, some with 2.3 etc.
The standard engine in the Sevel vans is the 2.0 jtd engine which is 84bhp, the 2.3 is 110bhp in standard guise.
You could use some of the £750 from the dealer to pay for a 'chip' upgrade to the engine, there are a few on here that have done it, but I would see how you find it first, I am sure it is more than adequate.
I like the 644, if we were going to have a coachbuilt, then it would be odds on favourite, great layout etc. We looked at them last year and thought even at full price it was a bargain, you have done really well on yours.
The free servicing gesture is very generous too, you must tell us which dealer it is, to offer that + £750, or a refund etc is really unusual. Not Brownhills obviously.

The dealer is Alan Kerr in Paignton about 1 mile from where i live, i have chosen a bad time to buy as they have just built a new showroom and are just changing over sites the salesman to deal with is Nigel the other one hasn't got a great deal of knowledge and is very hard to do a deal with.
I am more than happy now with the deal i have got after the replys i have had from this site. I will keep you informed as to service in the future.
