Hi Kev
I found the regulator quite simple to set up? we're both in Leeds if you need help.

congratulations on a very neat install, but you havnt put crisps in the snap box,....doh !!!!

just curious as to the point of it all and over engineered solution to the problem.. could you not just press the on button on the inverter and have it supply an extra discretely mounted socket inside the van ?

Ok so if I put a discreetly mounted socket somewhere? then I'd have to mess about with trailing leads to feed my TV/sat everytime I'm on battery Rolling Eyes

My changeover is mounted in the next cupboard to the Electrical distribution panel so it was quite easy to intercept the radial flex that feeds the 2 skts behind the tv.
Not at all over engineered, it does exactly what it is designed to do and no more. My total cost including inverter was £70 (labour £0)

I must say it was funny last weekend when Boroughbridge had several power cuts and my TV continued working Cool whilst everyone else was running around finding out what was wrong Laughing

sorry ,

but your posts is of interest as i m in the process of upgrading the power supply via extra couple of batteries, solar and inverter...

I decided to buy an inverter with remote switch and mount my disceetly mounted socket where the tv socket is to avoid trailing cables !!!

There isn't always a suitable place to discreetly mount a socket without a lot of work. I have no tv cupboard but 2 flush 13amp skts behind my tv. I dont have to mess with swapping plugs around depending on whether I'm on mains or battery as it's automatic.
The only extra work is the changeover box which is a couple of hours work for most sparkies and well worth it to those who have done it.

I might take you up on that, I'm not completely happy with my set up, but for the moment I'm trying to get all my light onto LED, but a couple are resisting my efforts by falling to bits, Italian electrics were never very good, (I seem to remeber "veglia" was a description as well as a trade name)

It is a very good way of keep 240V stuff working all the time without messing with different leads etc.

I now use 12v stuff where I can and get more or less the same results.

Kev I have the same solar controller, simple to set up as long as you connect the battery first. The controller will then set its self up. Dont worry if it reads low battery for a while ours did at first.

Richard...

I messed with mine initially but I've checked my battery voltage at the battery terminals often and the reading agrees with the regulator(even tho they are far apart) so I put it back to 13.7 volt charge cut off. The batteries get a boost when on the road from the 14.4 alternator output.
I've never collected my van without it having full batteries ready to rock Very Happy

All my lights are LED bar the toilet now but as they're never on for more than a call of nature I'm not desperate to change them

Mine seems to read low battery most of the time, I need to check out the whole solar side I think, but just don't have the time for it now.
