Hi all, I am looking to buy some silver screens to insulate my campers cab windows. Do I go for inside or external, advantages / disadvantages of the two types? There is a company called 'Silver Screens' are there other suppliers out there? are their products as good? Question

Hello challenger
Externals give better insulation, no condensation better heat retention. If it rains they get wet, storeage problem, plus they get dirty, Also if its raining you get wet putting them on Evil or Very Mad . Unless like me you use them as internals Razz .
Internals slightly less efficient at retaining heat plus a bit of condensation, you stay dry if its wet outside. I'm not sure if they are not a little bit cheaper to buy
Other companies do produce them. Taylors, (Taylor Made) and C.A.K. Tanks also have some in their catalogue. Both can be found using Google.
Which is best?..... don't know..... you pays your money etc etc I've always used Silver Screen, they do a good job

Hi. Having just bought and used "silver screens" from the company silver screens forr the first time, this was the best purchase i have made on a single item for my van. Cannot fault them. aprox 60 seconds to install and less to take down, no one can pinch them as long as your cab doors are locked, no condensation at all, and the heat retention..... Well from dorset in sept to scotland at xmas in -12 absolutely fantastic. The service and delivery is also 1st class. I rang on day one to enquire, brochure arrived day two, i ordered on day two and they arrived day four. 12 month garunteed and an option to part exchange if i change my van.

I agree with everything our previous writer said about Silver Screens. The others are cheaper but at the end of the day you pay for what you get. Where I park my Compass Calypso the sun in the summer shines on two of the tyres of the van for 6-8 hours a day. Silver Screens also sell for approx £25 matching tyre covers. Norman

Is there realy any advantage of getting a set of silver screens for a Trident? I assume they are for the cab front and side windows and since this is about half the window area in total I cant see the real advantage. Any experience?

Hi. I think i recall a trident, and i believe it to be a smallish compact van. The key is that the front screen and door side windows are the only windows that are not double glazed. Hence the heat loss. Assuming the remainder of your windows of your trident are double glazed i would reccomend them.

We have a Compass Calypso, which I quite small compared with others. The Silver Screen at the front covers all the front windows, with the result we do not need to draw the curtains for privacy, this makes a big difference because the curtains when drawn fall behind the drivers seats. We can leave valuables on the cab seats out of sight of outsiders. The Silver Screen also has the added benefit in winter of covering up the side mirrors and wind screen wipers. On merit in our case the advantages out way the cost, especially if you can buy a second hand set.

Hi Hobbit.

The point of my post which I should have explained is that the Trident does not have double glazed windows so covering up less than half the area doesnt seem benifitial to me

I have seen them with side panels on and also for back door. We used to have a VW ( a Calypso) which used to generate a lot on condensation on the front window. I think you could benefit even if it was a second hander
