In our new M/H one of the extras was a Caro Digital satellite system.
We can get some station but its all in german.
How do I get English channels?
I see loads of Sat wavelength like Astra 1+2.

Please be gentle as I'm not very technical.

Thank you for your help.

Nora + Neil

Your system is probably set to align with Astra 1 which carries mostly German languge channels, for English language channels you need to set it to point to Astra 2 which is East of Astra 1. Read the following for more information:

The method of re-alignment/tuning will depend on your system, if you have the instructions then they should tell you how to do it. For coverage of any encrpted channels on Astra 2 you will need a Sky digibox receiver and viewing card, there are no other receivers that will de-crypt the Sky channels.

Hi Gaspode.

Thanks for info.
I have tuned it to Astra 2, as my instruction are all in German, I don't know if I doing it right.
Where would I get a Sky Digibox receiver and card, and how much would I have to pay.

What channels will I get.

Hi Nora & Neil

You have two choices here:
1) Buy a free to air satellite receiver from Lidl or off Ebay. These are usually available from Lidl in their portable receiver/dish sets which cost around £60. They only receive FTA channels such as BBC1/2/3/4,News24, Skynews, CNN, CBBC, Channel4,5 etc. but have the advantage of being 12v, easy to set up and switchable to other satellites (Hotbird, Astra1 etc). if you wish.
2) Buy a new or second hand Sky Digibox. These can be had used from Ebay for about £20 - £40 depending on model. You will need a card to get anything other than the FTA programmes, there is a Freeview card which can be bought from Sky for £20 and covers all the FTA channels plus ITV and a number of others (mainly rubbish) or you could subscribe to one of the Sky packages for whatever channels you need. Don't know how being in Ireland will affect your subscription rights but plenty of people in Europe get around the subscription rules by having a UK address for the billing etc. Disadvantage with the Digibox is that you would need to use an inverter as they're 240v (unless you splash out on a 12v model - around £200 from various sources on the internet).
If you need a cheap Digibox I've several used ones hanging around that you could have from around £20 + postage.
Have you checked if your current receiver can be re-tuned to Astra2? Most of them should be re-tuneable to receive the FTA programmes.

Rang a few local Sat installer and they are very afraid about looking at a M/H system.
One told me I don't need a Digi box and the other said I needed one at a cost of €300.
I will ring some local Camper and see how they are set up.

Thank again Gaspode.
I will let you know how we get on.

Regards
