It's been hinted at but not directly covered but I suspect that because you always use an amplifier you are actually overloading your receiver and causing it to not be able to receive the signal. That is why when you move the aerial you can pick up the other stations and the ones you could receive fall below the threshold as your off beam.

Traditionally BBC channels are all transmitted on the same multiplex with ITV on a different multiplex and they will be at different signal strengths.

I would suggest that you turn down the gain of your booster or remove it completely. It is causing Intermodulation products which block out the original frequencies. ( I just said that so it looks like I know what I'm talking about!!)

I've posted on another thread before, however The Television Viewers Guide would help.

It gives all the transmitters
It tells you the polarisation
It indicates the strength of signal.

So with a map and a compass it's easy to work out which direction to point aerial and if it should be horizontal or vertical.
Brians watch is the compass and recently at Knutsford we had no difficulty getting all freevew channels.

Thanks all for your help so far.

I now have more info which might lead to solving the problem.

On a new wild-camping site I oriented to transmitter direction given by Find Digital. Got all BBC progs and associated, but still not much else.

Then without moving aerial, selected a channel that was not coming in and got message to effect "do you want to load 'MHEG?' (I think right letters).

So, had a go at saying 'Yes', and then re-tuned all channels (deleting previous)

Hey Presto! Got everything.

So now I need to know:-

1 What is MEHG?

2 Is it something peculiar to Meos sets?

3 Can I select it permanently?

4 If I have to select it each time, where do I find it on the Meos programme? - no ref in manual

Sorry to bother you kind folks again but next answer might solve problem for good.

Geoff
