Any ideas for how I can bake in a motorhome? Just to complicate things;
1) I don't have an oven
2) I would prefer not to have to use hookup!
We are thinking of fulltiming in the future and I am trying to work out if/how I could continue to make some of the things I like to make now - cakes/biscuits plus any sort of bake that needs the topping to brown (lasagne etc)
Any ideas? I've bought a double skillet but am not sure that would help with baking as it is direct heat (although I'm looking forward to the roasts!)
A Remoska - here - will do the baking for you but you will be limited if not on EHU or having an alternative source of electricity such as a generator. The smaller Remoska will use about 40 amps per hour on 12v so with an inverter and a couple of 110 amp leisure batteries you may be able to get 2 to 2 1/2 hours use but then you will have to find a way to recharge your batteries. I guess if you have a solar panel or some other way to recharge the batteries and only use the Remoska periodically, then it could work.
We have an Omnia - it's not sophisticated like the electric jobs but it's light, works over a miniscule gas jet and I have even baked bread in it (snowbound in London at the time nelieve it or not!!) Costs around Ģ35.
If you are going fulltime and like food then you need an oven, or....a Cobb bbq which can bake bread or roast a joint.

I used to use a BBQ, lit a small pile of coals put a joint on a rack in a baking tray. Put that on the rack that you would normaly cook on.
The BBQ had high sides so I then covered it in foil put a small vent in the top and leave to burn it self out. Cook the meat great also roast spuds.

With the gas type BBQ with the lid you should be able to use that.

My double skillet has arrived and the recipe book includes a couple of cake recipes.
Obviously I now feel obliged to play around and see whether I can adapt some of my favourites (fruit & nut brownies spring to mind!) - all in the name of research of course!
We always carry one of those ready mixed flour bag kits with us in case me run out of bread (or wheel chocks)
Get them from most supermarkets

Is the baking query due to worry about using too much gas?
I imagined that if the motorhome has an oven, then there's no problem with baking - am I wrong, in that too much gas or electricity gets used when baking? I don't have my motorhome yet but have been determined to have an oven. If I can't, I planned to buy a little portable one (electric.) Can you advise if the baking query relates to something I'm not aware of?
Thanks,
Chaya.
