but new thread needed.

1) If you have a dish on your wall, or for motorhome use, what advantage does Freeview HD have over Freesat HD? (Yes, I know Freesat can be blocked by a tree, but that is rarer than not being able to receive an adequate Freeview signal from the MH).

2) With a Sky+ box, the firmware requires satellite access before you can playback from the hard disc. Does the Humax Freesat PVR have the same firmware limitation for motorhome use?

TIA,

Dave

Sorry, Dave I meant to come back to your post when it was more convenient for me to get at our Humax Freesat box.

To answer your second question I have just disconnected our box from the dish and there is no problem in playing recordings.

Ah. Just a thought, Gillian. I wonder if that is the same with the Humax box fired up from unpowered with the dish already unconnected?

Software can be the Devil incarnate sometimes.

From a quick scan through the respective EPGs, it looks like all the major channels (Beeb, ITV, CH4, Five, Dave etc ) are on both.

Some (for me) minor differences on things like CNBC, True Movies, the "babe" channels etc, with FreeSat carrying more of these.

Mike

No you don't get Dave on Freesat I'm afraid. The Hummy PVR is great though. We've had ours nearly a year now so it's paid for itself in saving Sky fees. Briliant piece of kit.

I don't think you get Fiver or Five USA
BUT
You do get CBS Drama, CBS Reality and CBS Action

Not absolutely sure what you mean, Dave but I did disconnect the box from the mains before removing the feed from the dish.
The unit was then plugged back in again without the dish feed to check whether the recordings could be played.

Humax FOXSATHDR-G
Black Twin Freesat DTR with HDMI & 320GB Hard Drive (Grade A)
What are "Manager Specials"?

These products are either older models we are attempting to clear from stock, or "Grade A" ("Grade A" units are marked with the suffix -G or -GSP at the end of the part code). Grade A's are predominantly store returns that have been tested and where appropriate repaired to an "as new" standard in our own service centre or factory. They come fully boxed with all accessories and full instructions and are all backed up by a complete 1 year on site warranty.

I think I'd rather pay another £19.45 for a new one even if it is from Comet!

Which reminds me - iPlayer etc was on Freesat, too.

Yes, just connected this today on a Humax receiver and it works superbly, but you do need a network connection from the receiver to a router for the download so probably no good if you're looking at mobile use.
