Hi All, we are going to get installed in our Mk7 transit cab a reversing camera.....

I like the idea of having monitor mounted where mirror is positioned...looks good/ can be left in place when vehicle is unattended.

Veba do a unit that looks nice BUT Iam concerned by the physical size of mirror/ monitor @ 260mm x 106mm.

Can anyone put my fears to rest that this "box" will not obstruct the view in the tranny to the point of annoyance/ danger...

Many thx
MM

I'm sorry I haven't got an answer for you but this will 'bump' the topic for you. There have been loads of posts going through recently.
All I can say is my satnav is half that size and doesn't get in the way at all. I'd be interested to find out how you get on as I have a Mk7 and may be interested in a reversing camera one day.

Cheers
Chris

Hi I have a veba unit mounted on my mk7 Transit mirror.

It works really well

I don't even notice it unless I am looking at it.

My only regret is I did not get a twin lens camera.

If it's mounted where the mirror would be you either won't notice the difference or soon get used to it.

OK I spoke to several installers and they all felt the mirror/ monitor
could be a little tricky to use on times.......

Both advised the Veba 5.8" screen unit that is fully tiltable and can easily be mounted in the drivers side corner on a Mk7 transit van.

I bought the 5.8" screen kit from Dynamic Sound Ltd for £179 so I'm very pleased. Vanbitz wanted £529 to supply and fit!

CHRISV - we nearly bought a T660 as the layout is identical to the Dethleffs T63 but the front dinette is a little small for 2....very nice van all the same!!

Cheers
Matt

The previous owner put the screen on a mount where the document holder is. (center of the dash over the radio)
I was told last year by VOSA to remove it for the MOT as it obscured the drivers view.

I bought one that clips over the existing mirror, when camera is off you still get a "mirror". Installed it myself and concealed the cable in the headliner so it is not an obvious item to be stolen. 6" visible screen coupled with a 180 degree cmera with night vision. It is really useful, half wished I hadn't bought a separate SATNAV and investigated possibility of having this linked to mirror. two inputs

Vision UK system

I bought RVM-617

Company very helpful and supplied longer AV cable so I could route it inside the van...

Never any issue about restricted visibility

Following on from the comment by Inkey regarding the reversing camera, my van failed its MOT on brakes but they also said that it failed because the camera `was obstructing the drivers vision by over 4%.

My camera is mounted as close as possible to the dashboard tray above the glove compartment on the Ducato. There is no way it is an obstruction to my view but that is the law. Crying or Very sad

This may only apply in Class 4 MOT`s (for vans over 3500 kg.

If you have an MOT due, remove the camera. Cool

Has anyone tried a dual camera system from these people?

http://www.parkingcameras.com/store/product.php?productid=162&cat=0&page=&featured=Y

It looks very good and a good price. But I'm also tempted by the units that also integrate rear sensors as well.
Too many choices.
