Hi

If its just for photos I guess an ordinary flat bed scanner will do the job, we got the Epson V500 perfection to scan slides, it is back lit for slides and negatives, ours has packed up after just 9 months so is waiting to be replaced but I would not judge them all by that.

Otherwise it seems to do a good job and came recommended by a Photo Lab that uses its big brother for customer jobs.
