Nuke

I see that quite a few members are having trouble getting the home page to build and stabilize. Can I suggest you take a look at your home page structure.
The problem seems to be caused by the fact that it's a very big page. The text alone to describe the layout is 178k, without any images or anything else. There's a lot of script on the page too and whatever is producing the pages for the site is not very good. It has bits that are (redundantly) repeated in the page which makes it an even bigger download and because it's built on an older style website technology it's all laid out in tables which, although simple to design, means the browser has a huge amount of layout work to do. Most of the images on the page don't tell the browser their size until they have been downloaded, which means every time the browser gets an image, it must repeat the gargantuan task of layout all over again.. and again.. and again.

Maybe you should move away from using PHPNuke, but I would suggest at least reducing the size of the homepage.

Please treat the above as constructive not criticism - I love the site.

Shocked Tell it as it is tonyt. I am sure nuke doesn't want to spend £10000 or more on a Custom Design for this site which is FREE just like I believe PHP Nuke is., Laughing

johnsandywhite I did say "maybe....." and I did make another suggestion.

What ideas do you have to make the site work better?

Laughing You already saId it Tony. The site is too busy in the things it tries to do. The trouble is. Most people want more adding not taking away. I do agree with what you say. But without spending a lot of time and a heck of a lot of money. No chance. Unless of course a benifactor came along and was prepared either to write a Custom Site or pay for one to be written. Wink
