If you have asked the main dealers and they have told you "No it cannot be retro-fitted" why are you asking the question here??
Why do you think the garage said no? They are the experts on this vehicle thats why they are agents!! If it COULD be fitted surely they would leap at the chance of taking a fairly considerable sum of money off you for supplying and fitting it ???
I find these sort toys to be a bit of a gimic really !! I have a car with one fitted. I played with it for about 2 weeks and then just stopped bothering with it.
I have a device which tells me how much further I can go before re-fuelling, its called a fuel gauge !! I can work out my fuel consumption using good old fashioned maths, and I use the same primitive process (maths) to work out average speed (if I want too that is)
It is most certainly your money to dispose of however you wish and I am not going to say you should not persist in your search, its just that to my mind there are other items I would consider far more important. It is after all, all down to personal choice and we live in a country that embraces that principle.
Good luck with your search, I am sure you WILL find something that will do the job you want.
I would say yes it would be possible but you will need the co-operation of a Renault Main agent
Most of these will say no - because they don't know enough about the product or couldn't be bothered to even inquire or try
They may also need access to Renault's tech support if they can't work out what they need to order / fit / configure & will also require access to Renault's computer diagnostic computer that plugs into your van
the bigger the dealer the less likely you will get any help
you need to find a small dealership who will show an interest in your project or even an independent Renault specialist
what you could do is start by visiting a parts department & asking them to show you the hardware that you will need to buy on their parts system computer screen, once armed with all the part numbers you can price it up then with this list try & find someone to fit it
pity its not a Mercedes because there is just such a helpful Commercial dealer in Bridgend South Wales who will try anything on a Sprinter
If its any consolation, our 06 master dci140 has the trip computer and it shows mpg, trip distance, gallons used since reset, etc, but will not show the distance left to go before refuelling. - Just shows "----" in the display
It "should" work, and did initially.
Hasn't worked since I got the faulty fuel gauge fixed - probably related to the sender, but I never bothered investigating.

You would be wrong there, I went to our local Vauxhall dealer to see if I could just purchase a stork with cruise control plug in and work. Categorically NO was the answer it cannot be done you have to purchase all sorts of gear and would cost about 500pounds. I just went ahead bought the stork, fitted it and it worked I went back to the dealer to gloat they said you must have had it fitted as we said the other day, they did not believe me so, they don't know all things.
The nice thing about the Scangauge was that you can calibrate its speed reading by comparison to a Satnav (which *should* know how fast you're travelling, yes?) and calibrate your fuel tank sender by filling it up on the flat, driving it around and filling it up again (preferrably at the same pump at the same garage) and noting how much was used. Then you're good to go.
Yes, I know how to use a calculator. What I miss is the realtime feedback of driving style vs fuel consumption. It's no use driving 500 miles in multiple trips over different terrains and traffic conditions and then working out what your average fuel consumption over all those journeys was (I've done that, and the answer is 28mpg). It'd be nice to know here and now whether easing off the accelerator made a significant difference, or what difference cruising at 70mph vs 65 made.
Re: Renault fitting the trip computer. It wasn't a main dealer - our local one only does cars, so I phoed a local Renault truck garage who said 'no'. However, and I'm sure you've all been in this situation, you come away from the phone call with the distinct impression that the person on the other end of the phone either a) couldn't be bothered to check alternate sources b) didn't want / need the work c) had never heard of it being done so presumed it was impossible.
That's why I chose to bow to the superior knowledge of the folks on here and, indeed, thank you all for your two penn'orth - all of which is much appreciated.
Neat idea. Unfortunately, still reliant on the OBDII port, and it seems my 06 Renault Master, although it has the socket, doesn't respond to either of the standard protocols.

Hi,
I bought an Opel (Vauxhall) Antara last year and made a point of asking if I could get cruise control retrofitted. They had never been asked before but phoned around and thought it would be possible. A new stalk was ordered and when they were fitting it, the technician asked if I would like the fuel computer enabled at the same time. I jumped at the chance and now have cruise and fuel computer for a total price of around £150. May make a difference who you ask.
Cheers,
Alan

To be fair MrPlodd and without wanting to sound like a smart 4rse. Mercedes UK, The Dealership locally where my Nephew is the Sales Manager along with many other dealers and dealers Third Party Fitters told me it was not possible to Retrofit the Latest NTG Comand to my Sprinter.
Yet if you look in my Garage, you will find I did indeed fit it and managed to find a very clever Mercedes Independent ICE Specialist to program it to work with my Steering wheel control.
The Specialist gained my business for the adapter and and the Programming which contributes to the huge monthly cost of his STAR Machine Subscription to MB. I think He makes good money and good luck to him.
Mercedes lost out.
If you read treks post below yours. He gives a good explanation on the Merc and Renault kit. trek is very lucky as he has a really good MB Dealer near him.
I too would say I am 90% Certain the Renault can be retrofitted with the kit. Providing this kit/dash/binacle was an option at the time of production. Even if not, may still be possible.
Best source for advice on the Renault would be a specialist ICE or Renault enthusiast Forum. I sure there will be a Renault Boffin somewhere.
