Does any insurance company allow you to store your van on sites other than approved sites.

Our insurance company (Saga) insures our van, kept at a farm nearby. When we first started storing it there there was no purpose-built security. Saga knew this but did not ask for any extra premium or impose any special conditions. Now we have a big iron girder gate.
I am with Saga and they want it parked behind locked gates at home. What is the value off your van Grizzly, our is around £30,000.

It's been there since brand new in Feb 2007 when it was worth about £37,000. We had 2 other vans parked there before it, both bought from new and in neither case was there any security other than that the farm is some way from a main road. I couldn't tell you what it is worth now as we've never had it valued.
This is another of those ones where you need to read the policy.
I used to be on a CASSOA site and was moving to a farm (well actually garden centre) at the same time as renewing my insurance, so checked into it a bit. None of the insurers I got quotes from particularly rewarded CASSOA gold, it was the actual security in place that mattered...in that context the CASSOA label can provide a handy proof though.
What I found was that all insisted on a perimeter fence surrounding whole site (obviously apart from the exit gate, but that needs to be locked), 24 hr presence and CCTV. I must admit I'm dubious whether many "I keep it at a local farm" style setups meet these criteria...some will, some won't.
Be aware that with Comfort (and possibly others), contents cover is specifically excluded while it's in storage. Note that unlike the issue with cover while in traders, Comfort are very upfront about this and highlight it on their policy doc summary.

We've always been totally upfront and honest with our insurers and they know the postcode where the van is kept and we know they have actually seen it on Google Earth - the van itself.
They have insured us and our car for many years and we have had nothing but good service from them and good relations with them. We have read their terms carefully and understand them and they in turn can have no doubts as to where we keep the van and the security level there.
When I checked out the "insurance in storage" question with Saga, they were only interested in (i) was it on or off road and (ii) what was the postcode.
I tried to explain that the vehicle would be in a compound covered by CCTV, surrounded by a concrete slab wall and a six foot earth bank, under floodlights, behind two sets of heavy metal gates (one with a key padlock, the other with an electric card-operated lock) and 24 hour on-site security. The response was.....yes, but what's the postcode!!!
Because of the location of the compound, the insurance was cheaper if the MH was on my drive at home with no security other than its immobiliser.
