Hi everybody,
im in the process of buying my 1st motorhome which I intend to live in as my work and lifestyle mean i am never in one place for long! Just wondering if anybody could recommend a good insurance company. i am female aged 25.
Also, I have just looked at a 1986 mercedes 207 autotrail cherokee which seems to be everything i need in great shape at a great price. has anybody had experience of this model, if so i would be interested to hear any comments

You won't find anybody.
There are no companies in the UK who will insure full timers who live in thier vans.
The only way you can do it is to have a permanent U.K adress at which you are on the electoral role. Even then you are on dodgy ground.
The usual coment from the insurance companies is...........
'yes we'll insure you, and it's up to you how much you use the 'van, but if you are actually living in the 'van as your sole abode we will void your insurance'
Nice |

Simple question,
Why, and which insurance company said that?
The reason for asking is we intend to sell up buy a MH and tour UK and Europe, I will have a contact / mail address, bank account in which a monthly pension is paid from my ex empoyer, the MH will be taxed & tested if applicable, mobile contact numbers, so as long as the insurance premium is paid and the company can contact me either by letter,e-mail or telephone whats the problem?
I have seen this topic mentioned several times on this forum ending in a similar quote to zaskars so if the insurance company is named I will write to then pointing out the above and requesting an official answer. |

Hello pinkellie,
Welcome to the site and to the ranks of MHers.
I cannot give you a straight answer to your question but I suspect that someone will be able to help shortly, in the meantime there is a lot of info. in the forum archives.
I suspect it depends on what insurance you want and how you phrase the question to the insurers and whether you can arrange a base address.
There are a lot of people who full-time and I am sure they have insurance. |
