After 5 years we've decided to buy a TV for the 'van and would like to buy Avtex.
We've downloaded music, films and TV shows from itunes and these are on our ipod.
I've spoken with Avtex this morning who tell me the TV's do not support the ipod format, but, if I copy the files to a memory stick they will play.
I just wondered if anyone has had any experience of doing this?
Avtex have suggested I buy the TV and try it, but I'm reluctant to spend all that money if it doesn't work. And I can imagine getting a refund to be farily unlikely too.
Thanks for that, but I've read loads of posts on various forums saying that it does not work. The issue seems to be that the TV itself does not support the Ipod format. As stated in my first post, this has also been confirmed by Avtex themselves.
If anyone has done it successfully I'd be delighted to hear from them - or - if anyone has tried copying itunes film/tv files to a memory stick and been able to play them then that also would be good news.
I can't justify spending nearly 300 squids for an experiment if the manufacturers are telling me it won't work.
hi i have the avtex 192d great tv maybe a little to large for the van wish i had gone for the 16 inch i have films on my ipad if you can wait a couple of days will put them on a stick and try them on the tv for you.
My understanding is that they AV output from the ipod provides a universal signal that should work with all TV sets with an AV input (which the Avtex has I believe - I am using it on my older Avtex). If your TV at home has an AV input spend the £2.00 on the lead and try it. It will be much more convenient than transferring data to a memory stick and very much cheaper.
Good lluck, rogerandveronica
The issue is that there are many types of video files.
.avi .xvid . mp4 etc etec..
I have lots of films on my Archos but they are all .avi so wont copy straight to my ipod touch
The ipod touch uses .mp4 files... You can get programs to convert from .avi to .mp4 but it's a bit time consuming...
The idea of the lead if that it provides a composite video signal output, same as many video recorders, game console etc..
I cant see any reason why this should not work.. As mentioned why not buy one for £2 and try it on one of your existing TV..
I think the issue is that you cannot connect via the ipod straight to the USB in on the Avtex TV.. It is the same on almost every other TV with USB input.. The problem is Apple's .mp4 format...
Not many other companies support it..
Saying that, i'll get one of the leads ordered today.. Keep saying I'll get one..
*** UPDATE..... Just checked with my son and he seems to think Apple have stopped the cheaper unofficial leads form working..?? I did notice that some adverts do say "lead only" no software driver..
So back to being as confused as ever...
