I have a Multimo Satellite dish and the TV etc but when touring around the uk, it would be nice to have instant reception with the minimum of fuss or expense. Could anyone suggest what they have found to be the best option http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules/Forums/images/smiles/question.gif
External rods on a pole? Something that goes through my roof?
I already have an external point for occasions where sites provide a signal but I have just discovered Motorhome Stopover Club and am enjoying touring British Pubs for free and they do not provide a TV signal.

This is a firm that I've dealt with quite a lot. The website may give you an idea of what's available and the prices.

If you already have an external point then this aerial coupled with the Status amplifier is about the best you can get without drilling a hole in the roof:

For setting up your aerial for Freeview, read this article:

Thank you very much HOBBYFAN I did have a look at the variety of aerials they have but from your experience, which type of aerial would you recommend based on your own experience?

I'm sorry to disappoint you but I don't know. My experience with Leisure Power is with satellite installations for my two motor-homes that I've owned and other things such as LED lighting, air suspension etc.

I just knew that they also did terrestrial aerials so posted the link for you to do a bit of research.

The most convenient may well be a Status model, which fits through the roof and can be raised and lowered from inside the 'van, possibly into a wardrobe where it's hidden.

But I suspect that the best reception will be obtained by an aerial such as the Maxview Omnimax fitted on a mast, because you can move it around to different sides of the 'van and possibly raise it higher.

We've some experts on this forum who I'm sure will be able to advise you on the best aerial for terrestrial digital TV.

Unfortunately with the minimum of fuss or expense is mutually exclusive Sad If you have a status 315 (the flying saucer) on your roof, I would stick with that. Reception with it will only get better as more and more regions go fully digital. For the times it gives poor reception, use your multimo.

If you don't have a 315 you will have to decide how much money you want to spend for minimum fuss and it may not give you the best aerial. Many aerials sold for mobile use do not give performance figures in their specs so its difficult to compare reception capabilities. Some are at least CAI approved which can give you some measure of assurance it will do the job required. You can download a list of benchmarked antennas from them. It does include some mobile aerials from Maxview and Grade.

If you (or anyone else) is interested I have for sale a Glomex it is complete with the mounting and amplifier, like this one http://www.reliancemarine.com/Product/13702/Glomex-Marine-Master-TV-Antenna-Standard-V9112-EC-/View.aspx ].
I and it are in France at moment but will be in UK at end of month, will accept £30 for it if interested.

Thank you so much PeeDee, that is just the sort of information I wanted. I seemed to remember reading about the short-comings of the circular roof Status units but seeing so many supplied and fitted to roofs, I was having some doubts. The previous owner of my 'van has left two aerial-pole attachment clips on the side of it, so I guess you have tipped the scales. Nonetheless I wish the roof model had lived up to expectations, it looks so much more convenient.
Cheers rosalan

What's not clear is whether you actually already have a Status type of aerial already fitted. Not all 'vans come with them, mine didn't and I simply use satellite T.V.

If you don't already have a terrestrial aerial fitted, fitting one will mean making a hole in the roof and a long pole sticking down into the 'van. If there's a wardrobe that it can go in, so and good, but again, it depends on what's on the roof above the wardrobe.

If you have no aerial already fitted I'd be tempted to use the existing aerial pole attachments, not as convenient but no drilling and less expense.

Thank you Hobbyfan, this set of feeds have proved very useful and no, I do not have an aerial already installed, although the vans internal connections anticipated one being fitted. At this moment in time however, just to confuse the issue eura john has put on offer a marine Glomex but I think drilling holes into a roof that does not leak (at present) will be a deciding factor.
Cheers
